Primordial boots

“A pair of upgraded dragon boots.”

Primordial boots are among the best melee strength boots in Old School RuneScape, requiring 75 Strength and 75 Defence to wear. They give +5 melee strength alongside +22 defence in all melee styles, the second-highest feet-slot strength bonus in the game behind only avernic treads. You make them by combining a primordial crystal (a 1/520 drop from Cerberus) with a pair of dragon boots. As a staple of nearly every max-melee setup, they sell on the Grand Exchange for roughly 19M coins.

Equipment bonuses

Primordial boots define the melee feet slot with +5 melee strength and a solid defensive base of +22 stab, +22 slash and +22 crush defence. They also add +2 attack across every melee style at the cost of -4 magic attack.

That +5 strength bonus is what puts them in almost every max-melee loadout, gated only behind 75 Strength and 75 Defence to equip.

How to get primordial boots

Primordial boots aren't a direct drop — you craft them. You combine a primordial crystal with a pair of dragon boots, which permanently upgrades the boots and cannot be reversed. The combination requires level 60 Magic and 60 Runecraft (these levels cannot be boosted) and grants 200 experience in each skill.

The primordial crystal itself is an add-on dropped only by Cerberus, the level 318 hellhound boss beneath Taverley Dungeon, at a rate of 1/520. Reaching Cerberus needs 91 Slayer and an active hellhound or Cerberus Slayer task. If you'd rather buy them finished, both the crystal and the completed boots trade freely on the Grand Exchange.

Want the full Slayer route to Cerberus? See the OSRS Slayer guide, or plan the kill in the Boss Gear Finder.

Are primordial boots worth it?

For any serious melee account, yes. Compared to dragon boots, primordials add +1 melee strength, +2 attack in every melee style and around +5 defence against all melee styles, costing only -1 magic attack. That extra strength bonus translates directly into higher max hits, which is why they sit in nearly every endgame melee gear setup.

The only feet-slot upgrade above them is avernic treads — and those are built by adding one pair each of primordial, eternal and pegasian boots plus 12,000 demon tears onto a base pair of treads, so primordials are one of the components of the absolute best-in-slot. If you've maxed your avernic treads, you've already used a pair of these.
