The odium ward is a Ranged shield requiring 60 Defence to wield, and one of the few off-hand shields that actually boosts a Ranged attacker. It gives +12 Ranged attack and +4 Ranged Strength plus heavy defensive cover (+52 Ranged defence, +24 Magic defence), but it is not best in slot — it sits third behind the dragonfire ward and the twisted buckler. It isn't a drop: it's forged at the Volcanic Forge from three odium shards, and trades for roughly 3.4M on the Grand Exchange.
Equipment bonuses
The odium ward's defining feature is that it is a shield with offensive Ranged stats: +12 Ranged attack and +4 Ranged Strength, which almost no other shield offers. Defensively it is built to soak ranged and magic hits with +52 Ranged defence and +24 Magic defence.

Other bonuses
Its melee attack bonuses are all negative (−12 stab/slash/crush, −8 magic), so it is purely a Ranged off-hand — equip it only on a 60 Defence Ranged setup where the +12 Ranged attack and +4 Ranged Strength are worth giving up a quiver or a Magic/melee shield.

How to get the odium ward
You can't get the odium ward as a direct drop — it is created at the Volcanic Forge, in the far north-eastern corner of the Wilderness. To forge it you need three components in your inventory at once:
- Odium shard 1 — dropped by the Chaos Fanatic
- Odium shard 2 — dropped by the Crazy archaeologist
- Odium shard 3 — dropped by Scorpia
With all three shards on you, travel to the Volcanic Forge and combine them to produce the ward. Because every shard comes from a Wilderness boss, gathering them carries PvP risk. Once forged, the odium ward is tradeable, so most players simply buy the finished shield on the Grand Exchange for around 3.4M rather than farming all three bosses themselves.
Is the odium ward worth it?
The odium ward fills a narrow but real niche: a ranged off-hand that adds attack and strength instead of just defence. For low-to-mid level rangers who don't yet have access to a top-tier buckler, it is a cheap, low-requirement (60 Defence) way to squeeze a little extra accuracy and a +4 Ranged Strength bonus out of the shield slot.
It is not best in slot, though. Its own wiki entry calls it the third best Ranged attack and strength shield, beaten by the dragonfire ward and the twisted buckler. Both of those (and a charged toxic blowpipe-style two-hander setup) outscale it at higher levels, so think of the odium ward as a budget bridge rather than an endgame piece. If you mainly want defensive cover or you're slot-flexible, compare it against the wider ranged gear options before committing.
Odium ward (or) and cosmetic upgrade
The base odium ward can be cosmetically upgraded using a ward upgrade kit, bought from Justine's stuff for the Last Shopper Standing (Last Man Standing reward shop). Applying the kit creates the odium ward (or).
The (or) version is purely cosmetic — it does not change any combat stats — but it does make the shield untradeable. The change can be reverted back to a normal odium ward, but the upgrade kit itself is not returned when you do. The priced, tradeable item shown above is the standard odium ward, not the (or) variant.
Odium ward FAQ
What level do you need to wear the odium ward?
You need 60 Defence to wield the odium ward. There is no Ranged or other skill requirement — just the Defence level.
How do you get the odium ward?
It is forged at the Volcanic Forge in the Wilderness from three odium shards: shard 1 from the Chaos Fanatic, shard 2 from the Crazy archaeologist, and shard 3 from Scorpia. Because it's tradeable, you can also just buy the finished ward on the Grand Exchange.
Is the odium ward best in slot for Ranged?
No. Its own wiki entry lists it as the third best Ranged attack and Ranged Strength shield, behind the dragonfire ward and the twisted buckler. It's a solid budget option but not endgame best-in-slot.
How much is the odium ward worth?
On the Grand Exchange it trades for roughly 3.4M coins (the live price is shown above). Note its alchemy value is much lower — about 27K high alch / 18K low alch — so always sell it on the GE, not to an alchemy spell.
What stats does the odium ward give?
Its standout bonuses are +12 Ranged attack and +4 Ranged Strength — rare for a shield — plus strong defence of +52 Ranged and +24 Magic. Its melee attack bonuses are all negative (−12 stab/slash/crush, −8 magic), so it's a Ranged-only off-hand.
Does the odium ward have a special attack?
No. The odium ward is a defensive Ranged shield and has no special attack.
What is the odium ward (or)?
The odium ward (or) is a cosmetic version made by using a ward upgrade kit (from Justine's Last Man Standing shop) on a normal odium ward. It looks different but has identical stats, and applying it makes the shield untradeable. You can revert it, but you won't get the kit back.
Is it worth getting an odium ward over a twisted buckler?
The twisted buckler outclasses the odium ward for Ranged, so if you can afford and use a buckler that's the stronger choice. The odium ward's appeal is its low 60 Defence requirement and lower cost, making it a budget bridge for lower-level rangers rather than an endgame upgrade.
