Dragon harpoon

“A very powerful harpoon.”

The dragon harpoon is a wieldable harpoon that requires 61 Fishing to fish with and 60 Attack to wield. It catches fish 20% faster than the regular harpoon (reduced to 5% at Tempoross) and carries a special attack, Fishstabber, that gives a visible +3 Fishing boost. Its melee stats roughly match the dragon dagger but one tick slower at a 5-tick (3.0s) swing. It drops from wyrms at 1/2,000 on a Slayer task and trades around 2.5M.

How to get the dragon harpoon

The dragon harpoon is a drop from wyrms, combat-level-97 Slayer monsters (requiring level 62 Slayer) in the Karuulm Slayer Dungeon. It drops at a rate of 1/2,000, but only when the wyrm is killed as part of a Slayer task — off-task kills cannot roll it.

Like most dragon equipment, it cannot be smithed from raw materials. If you do not want to farm it yourself you can buy it straight off the Grand Exchange, where it trades for roughly 2.5M. You will need 61 Fishing to actually fish with it and 60 Attack to wield it for the special attack.

Special attack — Fishstabber

The dragon harpoon's special attack is Fishstabber, which consumes 100% of your special attack energy and grants a visible +3 boost to Fishing. Because using a special attack requires you to wield the weapon, this Fishing boost needs the 60 Attack wield requirement, not just the fishing level.

A handy detail: like the dragon axe, activating the special does not interrupt your fishing if you are already fishing when you trigger it. The boost is capped — any level boosted past 99 is treated as 99, so there are diminishing returns at level 97-98 and no benefit to speccing at 99.

Is the dragon harpoon worth it?

For a serious fisher, yes. The flat 20% faster catch rate over the regular harpoon adds up over thousands of catches, and the +3 Fishing special is useful for hitting boosted-level fishing spots. It is also the upgrade path for two better tools: combine it with a smouldering stone to make the infernal harpoon (75 Fishing, 85 Cooking — cooks fish while you fish), or sing it in a singing bowl with crystal shards and a crystal tool seed to make the crystal harpoon.

As a combat weapon it is mediocre — its +38 stab and +42 strength roughly equal a dragon dagger but a tick slower, so it is not a real melee option. Buy it for the fishing utility. Compare melee options on our melee gear page or plan a wyrm trip with the boss gear finder.
