Dragon platelegs are a members' leg armour requiring 60 Defence to wear. They give a strong all-round defensive plate — +68 stab, +66 slash and +65 ranged defence — while adding nothing to your offence, the same profile as the dragon plateskirt. They aren't smithable; instead they're a rare drop from metal dragons, brutal black dragons, skeletal wyverns and revenants. A long-standing mid-game pick for melee tanking, they trade on the Grand Exchange for a few hundred thousand coins.
Equipment bonuses
Dragon platelegs are built purely for defence. They post +68 stab, +66 slash, +63 crush and +65 ranged defence, with only a slight -4 magic defence dip, and require 60 Defence to equip.

Other bonuses
As a leg slot there's no attack speed; note the offensive penalties (-21 magic and -11 ranged attack) make these a melee-focused choice rather than a hybrid one.

How to get dragon platelegs
Dragon platelegs can't be made with Smithing — like most dragon armour, they only come from monster drops. They fall from a spread of high-Defence dragons and a few other sources:
- Adamant dragons — 1/110, the most common source.
- Steel dragons, brutal black dragons and skeletal wyverns — 1/512 each.
- Iron dragons — 1/1024.
- Bronze dragons — 1/2048.
- Rune dragons — 1/127 from their gem drop table.
- Revenants in the Wilderness also drop them.
If you'd rather just buy a pair, they're freely tradeable on the Grand Exchange — see the live price and history chart above for the current cost. Most players buying gear browse the wider melee gear list to round out a setup.
Are dragon platelegs worth it?
For a mid-game account, dragon platelegs are a clean upgrade over rune and a solid leg slot for melee training, slayer and lower-tier bossing. They carry the same stats as the cheaper-to-obtain dragon plateskirt, so the choice between them is purely cosmetic — pick whichever you prefer the look of (or the better price).
They are not, however, an endgame leg slot. Bandos tassets and the various god-war and raid legs all beat them on offensive bonuses, and dedicated tank legs outdo their defence. Treat dragon platelegs as a reliable stepping stone: cheap, easy to obtain, and good enough until your melee gear progression and bank can justify something higher. If you're gearing for a specific boss, the boss gear finder will show where they fit.
Dragon platelegs FAQ
What level do you need to wear dragon platelegs?
You need 60 Defence to equip dragon platelegs. They're members-only.
How do you get dragon platelegs?
They're a drop, not a smithed item. The most common source is adamant dragons at 1/110; steel dragons, brutal black dragons and skeletal wyverns drop them at 1/512, iron dragons at 1/1024 and bronze dragons at 1/2048. Rune dragons and revenants drop them too. You can also just buy a pair on the Grand Exchange.
Can you make dragon platelegs with Smithing?
No. Like most dragon armour, dragon platelegs cannot be created with the Smithing skill — they only come from monster drops or the Grand Exchange.
Are dragon platelegs better than the dragon plateskirt?
Neither is better — dragon platelegs and the dragon plateskirt have identical stats and weight. The difference is purely cosmetic, so pick whichever you prefer (or whichever is cheaper at the time).
Are dragon platelegs still good?
They're a solid mid-game leg slot for melee but no longer endgame. Items like Bandos tassets and god-war or raid legs beat them on offence, and tank legs beat their defence. They're best seen as an affordable stepping stone on the way to better gear.
How much do dragon platelegs cost?
Roughly a few hundred thousand coins, but the price moves with the market. Check the live price and history chart above for the current Grand Exchange value rather than relying on a fixed figure.
Update history
