Rune platelegs

“These look pretty heavy.”

Rune platelegs are the leg armour of choice for free-to-play melee, made from runite and needing only 40 Defence to wear. They share their stats with the rune plateskirt but weigh 1kg more, giving +51 stab, +49 slash and +47 crush Defence. You can smith them at 99 Smithing from 3 runite bars, win them from the crystal chest, or simply buy them off the Grand Exchange for a modest sum.

Equipment bonuses

Rune platelegs are pure defence: +51 stab, +49 slash, +47 crush and +49 ranged Defence, with a small -4 magic Defence penalty. They add no offensive bonuses and lower your magic and ranged attack while worn.

How to get rune platelegs

There are several ways to get a pair of rune platelegs:

  • Grand Exchange — by far the easiest route. Check the live price and history chart above before buying.
  • Smithing — at level 99 Smithing, use 3 runite bars and a hammer on an anvil for 225 Smithing experience. Along with the rune plateskirt and 2h sword, this is the best bar-per-alch value in the game.
  • Crystal chest — players with a body type A character can receive them as a reward.
  • Treasure Trails — they are needed for two hard-tier emote clue steps (the Jig emote at Jiggig and the Shrug emote north of the Chaos Temple).
  • Aldarin windmill nest — in Varlamore, they can be placed in the nest on top of the windmill to recover a runite bar.

Rune platelegs FAQ

What level do you need to wear rune platelegs?

You need 40 Defence to equip rune platelegs. There is no Strength or members requirement, so they are available to free-to-play players.

Are rune platelegs members only?

No. Rune platelegs are a free-to-play item, although they are still tradeable on the Grand Exchange. Free players can wear and use them.

How do you make rune platelegs?

You can smith them at level 99 Smithing using 3 runite bars and a hammer on an anvil, granting 225 Smithing experience. They are one of the best bar-per-alch items in the game for Smithing money-making.

What's the difference between rune platelegs and a rune plateskirt?

They are identical in combat stats. The only difference is weight — rune platelegs are 1kg heavier (9.071 kg) than the plateskirt. Pick whichever look you prefer.

Do rune platelegs have a special attack?

No. Rune platelegs are armour, not a weapon, so they have no special attack. Their value is purely the +51 stab, +49 slash and +47 crush Defence they provide.

How much are rune platelegs worth?

Their price moves with the Grand Exchange — see the live price and history chart above for the current value. They are typically one of the cheaper rune armour pieces, and their high alchemy value (38.4K) sets a rough floor.
