Best in slot gear for Ahrim the Blighted (current meta)
This setup is computed live from the same wiki-sourced combat stats and monster data that power our OSRS DPS calculator — so it tracks the current meta instead of going stale. Pick your combat style above and it ranks every viable weapon and armour piece by damage per second against Ahrim the Blighted, factoring in the boss's defences, size and any elemental weakness.
Not at maxed stats? Lower any level on the left and the recommendation re-ranks instantly — requirement-gated gear drops out automatically. For the full ranked list per slot, open the BiS calculator; to pit two specific items against each other, use Gear Compare.
Ahrim the Blighted Strategy Guide
Ahrim the Blighted Guide
Ahrim the Blighted is the eldest of the six Barrows brothers and the only one who fights with the Magic corner of the combat triangle. His crypt is found in the centre of the Barrows. He is a members-only target with a combat level of 98 and 100 Hitpoints, and unlike his armoured siblings he wears robes — which leaves him vulnerable to Ranged as well as Melee attacks. His magic hits are very accurate (even through dragonhide) for up to 20 damage, and he layers stat-draining spells and a passive set effect on top, so he punishes anyone who fights him unprepared. This guide covers how he attacks, the prayers and supplies that keep you safe, and the gear style that kills him fastest. For an exact loadout tuned to him, use our Boss Gear Finder.
Requirements & where to fight
Ahrim is a members monster, so you will need a members account to fight him. He is found in his crypt at the centre of the Barrows, where he is the magic-using member of the six Barrows brothers. He can also be assigned as a boss Slayer target — the Wiki lists him as assignable by Konar, Nieve and Duradel — and a kill grants 102.5 Slayer experience when done on task.
Because he sits in the Magic corner of the combat triangle and wears only robes, your job is simpler than it looks: bring a style he is weak to, pray correctly, and protect your stats. There is no quest requirement listed on his own page to fight him.
Recommended stats & gear
Ahrim wears robes, which the Wiki notes make him vulnerable to Ranged as well as Melee, so a high-damage attack from either of those styles is the way to go. The page calls out the meta directly: he is commonly defeated with a toxic blowpipe, magic shortbow, or crystal bow, with players who have high melee stats opting for an abyssal whip or zombie axe instead.
That makes Ahrim a Ranged-first target with a melee fallback. Lean on your best Ranged setup — see our Ranged gear guide for the families that matter — or swap to melee gear if your Attack and Strength are the stronger stats. A small but important note: the Wiki recommends wearing dragonhide armour here, because it helps against his magic and his set effect still counts your hits as successful regardless. For an exact item-by-item loadout, use our Boss Gear Finder rather than guessing.
One thing the page is clear about: even on dragonhide his magic is very accurate, so do not expect armour alone to tank him — prayer does the heavy lifting (see below).
Inventory & supplies
The single most important supply the Wiki names for Ahrim is a Stat restore potion. His spells drain your combat stats and Protect from Magic does not stop those drains, so you need a way to top your stats back up mid-fight. Bring one (or several for a longer trip).
- Dragonhide armour — recommended on his page for the magic-defence it gives while you fight him.
- Stat restore potion — to undo the Attack, Strength and Defence drains from his Confuse, Weaken and Curse, plus the Strength loss from his set effect.
- Standard combat supplies for your chosen style (food and prayer restoration) so you can keep Protect from Magic active.
Fight mechanics
Ahrim has one damaging attack plus a stack of stat-draining effects. Handle them in this order of priority:
Accurate magic attack (max 20). His only damage attack is Magic, with a max hit of 20 and an attack speed of 6. The Wiki stresses it is very accurate even on dragonhide armour, which is why Protect from Magic is recommended against him — the prayer is what keeps the damage off you, not your armour.
Confuse, Weaken and Curse (stat drains). Ahrim can cast Confuse, Weaken and Curse, lowering your Attack, Strength and Defence stats respectively. Critically, the page warns that Protect from Magic does not protect against these stat reductions — they still land through the prayer. Counter them by sipping a Stat restore potion.
Blighted Aura (set effect). Ahrim's set effect, Blighted Aura, gives him a 20% chance to lower your Strength stat by 5 for each successful hit. Because the attack still counts as a successful hit, this effect can fire even while you are praying Protect from Magic. Again, the fix is a stat-restore potion to claw your Strength back.
Strategy / kill rotation
The clean kill loop on Ahrim is short:
- Turn on Protect from Magic before you engage — his accuracy means you want it up from the first tick.
- Attack with a style he is weak to. Ranged (toxic blowpipe, magic shortbow or crystal bow) is the named meta; switch to an abyssal whip or zombie axe if your melee stats are higher.
- Watch your stats. Expect your Attack, Strength and Defence to creep down from his spells and his set effect, even through the prayer.
- Drink a Stat restore potion whenever your stats have dropped enough to hurt your accuracy or damage, then keep hitting.
Note his 50% elemental weakness to wind spells (added in the 29 May 2024 Project Rebalance). It is a real weakness, but his own page still names Ranged and melee as the methods players actually use to kill him — his Magic and Defence levels are both 100, so a robe-shredding Ranged or melee setup is the practical choice.
Notable drops
On his own page, Ahrim has a single listed drop: a Brimstone key, and only when he is killed on a Slayer task given by Konar quo Maten. His signature robe set — Ahrim the Blighted's equipment — is his iconic magic gear, but note that it is associated with him as a set rather than appearing in his on-page kill drops, so treat the robes as his trademark loadout, not a guaranteed kill reward.
Common mistakes
- Relying on armour instead of prayer. His magic is accurate even on dragonhide — without Protect from Magic up, you will take steady 20s.
- Assuming Protect from Magic stops everything. It blocks his damage but not his Confuse, Weaken or Curse drains, and not the Blighted Aura Strength loss. Those still land.
- Forgetting a Stat restore potion. With no way to undo the drains, your accuracy and damage bleed away over a long fight.
- Fighting him with his own style. He has 100 Magic and 100 Defence; bringing magic into a robe-wearer who is weak to Ranged and Melee is the slow way to do it.
Ahrim the Blighted Guide — FAQ
What style should I use against Ahrim?
Ranged is the named meta — his page lists the toxic blowpipe, magic shortbow and crystal bow as common kill methods because his robes leave him vulnerable to Ranged. Players with high melee stats can use an abyssal whip or zombie axe instead. Use our Ranged gear or melee gear guides, or the Boss Gear Finder for an exact loadout.
Which prayer do I use on Ahrim?
Protect from Magic. His only damaging attack is Magic and it is very accurate even on dragonhide, so the prayer is recommended throughout the fight. Be aware it does not stop his stat-draining spells or his set effect.
Why do my stats keep dropping even with Protect from Magic on?
Because that prayer only blocks his damage. Ahrim casts Confuse, Weaken and Curse to lower your Attack, Strength and Defence, and his Blighted Aura set effect has a 20% chance to drop your Strength by 5 on each successful hit — all of which work through the prayer. Carry a Stat restore potion to undo them.
What does Ahrim drop?
His on-page drop is a Brimstone key, but only when he is killed on a Slayer task assigned by Konar quo Maten. His robe set is his trademark magic equipment rather than a listed kill drop from him directly.
