Blue Moon Guide

The Blue Moon is one of the three Moons of Peril, a trio of nagua bosses imprisoned in Neypotzli beneath Cam Torum in Varlamore. Released on 20 March 2024, she is a level 329 boss with 500 Hitpoints aimed at mid-level players, and is fought solo even when other players share the chamber. Her standard attack is a typeless three-hit melee combo, and she alternates between two special attacks, Weapon Freeze and Frost Storm, that play on her icy, lunar theme.

Unlocking the fight requires the Perilous Moons quest. Because Neypotzli supplies stronger food and potions than anything outside, you bring almost nothing but combat gear. The Blue Moon is weak to crush and has a unique armour stat that rewards multi-hitting weapons, and she rewards the magic-focused Blue moon armour set. This guide covers her requirements, gear style, mechanics and notable drops. For exact loadouts use our Boss Gear Finder above.

Requirements & where to fight

The Blue Moon lives in her own chamber inside Neypotzli, the prison reached from the northernmost end of Cam Torum in Varlamore. You must complete the Perilous Moons quest before the Lunar Chest will open and rewards can be claimed.

There are no skill requirements to enter, but the wiki suggests 70+ Attack, Strength and Defence and 75+ Hitpoints for survivable trips, plus 34+ Prayer for Steel Skin, Incredible Reflexes and Ultimate Strength (or 70+ Prayer for Piety). Levelling those stats up first makes every kill faster and cheaper. See our Attack, Strength, Defence and Prayer guides if you need to train them.

Neypotzli is nearly self-contained for supplies, so the only items you need to bring are your combat gear and an optional emergency teleport.

Recommended stats & gear

The Blue Moon is weak to crush and is heavily resistant to magic and ranged (she carries +500 magic and ranged defence and +100 melee defence to the styles she is not weak to), so this is a pure melee fight. Crucially she has a -5 flat armour stat, which increases every hitsplat you land on her by 5. That makes weapons that hit multiple times per attack especially strong here, since each hitsplat gets the bonus.

For armour, balance strength and defence rather than chasing raw strength. The wiki recommends tankier sets such as Bandos or Barrows over low-defence options like obsidian, because defence cuts how often you have to eat during the vulnerable phases. Bring a strong crush weapon plus a special-attack weapon. Rather than list exact items, use our Boss Gear Finder above and browse melee gear by tier to find affordable upgrades.

Inventory & supplies

Because Neypotzli stocks its own supplies, you craft most of your kit inside. The single potion available is the moonlight potion, which acts as a prayer potion, super combat potion and divine super defence in one; it scales with Herblore, so bring one super defence or super combat potion if your Herblore is below 66.

For food, gather and cook moss lizards or bream at the camp ranges; pick whichever heals more for your levels. With 75 Hunter you can also catch moonlight moths for 22 Prayer each, reducing potion use between bosses. A typical inventory carries your weapon switches, a special-attack weapon, several moonlight potions, cooked food, and an optional emergency teleport (every fight has a quick escape).

Fight mechanics

Eyatlalli's glyph (positioning). Eight sigils surround the Blue Moon and one is imbued at a time. During non-special attacks you must stand on the lit sigil or take rapid, ramping damage that starts at 1 per tick and doubles up to 16 per tick while stacking the curse. The sigil rotates clockwise after every two standard attacks, and landing on a full or new moon triggers a special attack. Note that protection prayers do nothing against any of her attacks.

Standard attack (3-hit combo). She hits three times, maxing 4, then 8, then 20 (32 total). If any hit misses, every hit after it also misses, so good melee defence sharply reduces damage. Each combo adds 1, 2 and 5 stacks of the Curse of the Moon.

Curse of the Moon (cold). The Blue Moon's curse cancels your next attack once it builds up. You get warning messages at 3 and 9 stacks, and at 18 stacks your joints lock and you lose an attack, after which 18 stacks are removed. Bringing tankier defensive armour slows the curse and overall damage.

Weapon Freeze (Full Moon special). She freezes your weapon into one of three ice blocks; punch the block that glows blue with unarmed attacks to free it. A safespot sits one tile north of the centre of the ritual symbol. You can hit the block twice before moving away from the icy shards, and failing to break it can deal up to 28 damage.

Frost Storm (New Moon special). Two braziers are extinguished and she heals herself five times, restoring 10 health per unlit brazier (up to 100). Run to each brazier and relight it while dodging the storms, which deal damage and force you to walk for two ticks. Relighting both also strips some curse stacks. You may skip this phase entirely if your damage output outpaces her healing.

Strategy & notable drops

Kill rotation. Stay on the lit glyph and attack through the 3-hit cycles, following the sigil as it rotates clockwise. When a special begins you can move freely: for Weapon Freeze, punch the blue-glowing ice block from the safespot; for Frost Storm, either relight both braziers or DPS through the heal if you are hitting hard enough. Weapon speed matters because of forced downtime between glyphs, so faster weapons that fit more hits per cycle, plus her -5 flat armour, make multi-hitting crush weapons shine.

Notable drops. Rewards come from the Lunar Chest after defeating at least one moon, scaling with how many you subdue (similar to Barrows). The Blue Moon's signature reward is the magic-focused Blue moon armour set, the Blue moon helm, Blue moon chestplate and Blue moon tassets, which together grant a 3% Magic damage bonus and enable the Frostweaver set effect with the Blue moon spear.

Common mistakes

  • Praying against her attacks. Protection prayers do nothing here, so leaning on them instead of dodging and out-damaging wastes prayer.
  • Standing off the lit sigil. The off-glyph damage ramps fast (up to 16 per tick) and feeds the curse; always follow the imbued sigil.
  • Using low-defence, high-strength gear. Tankier armour reduces how often you eat in the vulnerable phases and slows the curse, often a net DPS gain.
  • Ignoring multi-hit weapons. Her -5 flat armour boosts every hitsplat by 5, so single-big-hit weapons can underperform multi-hitting crush weapons.
  • Letting Frost Storm heal her unchecked. She heals five times during the storm, restoring 10 health per unlit brazier (up to 100); relight them or make sure your damage clearly outpaces the heal.

Blue Moon Guide — FAQ

What level and stats do I need for the Blue Moon?

You must complete the Perilous Moons quest to claim rewards. The Blue Moon is combat level 329, and the wiki suggests 70+ Attack, Strength and Defence, 75+ Hitpoints, and 34+ Prayer (or 70+ for Piety) for comfortable trips. There is no hard skill gate to enter.

What is the Blue Moon weak to?

She is weak to crush melee attacks and is heavily resistant to magic and ranged. She also has a -5 flat armour stat that increases each hitsplat against her by 5, so multi-hitting crush weapons are especially effective.

Do protection prayers work on the Blue Moon?

No. Protection prayers have no effect against any of her attacks. Survive instead by stacking good melee defence (which makes her 3-hit combo miss more often), staying on the lit glyph, and handling the specials.

What does the Blue Moon drop?

Rewards come from the Lunar Chest after subduing at least one moon. Her signature reward is the magic Blue moon armour set, the Blue moon helm, chestplate and tassets, which give a combined 3% Magic damage bonus and power the Frostweaver set effect with the Blue moon spear.
