Eclipse Moon Guide

The Eclipse Moon is one of the three Moons of Peril, a trio of nagua imprisoned in Neypotzli, a prison reached from Cam Torum in Varlamore. Released on 20 March 2024 in Varlamore: Part One, you fight each Moon one at a time, using the powerful food and potions found inside the prison to restock between fights.

Eclipse Moon is combat level 329 with 500 Hitpoints. Despite the moon-and-light theme of her special attacks, she is a pure melee fight: she is weak to stab, carries +500 magic and ranged defence, and during her Clone phase only melee weapons will damage her at all. A 15% elemental weakness to wind (air) spells was added on 25 June 2025, but it is niche here since her +500 magic defence and the melee-only Clone phase make magic impractical. You need to have completed the Perilous Moons quest to open the Lunar Chest and claim loot.

To plan the exact melee loadout for this fight, use our Boss Gear Finder above.

Requirements & where to fight

Eclipse Moon lives in the Eclipse Moon chamber inside Neypotzli, the prison reached from the northernmost end of Cam Torum in Varlamore. The only hard requirement is completing the Perilous Moons quest, which opens the Lunar Chest so you can actually claim rewards.

The Wiki suggests roughly 70+ Attack, 70+ Strength, 70+ Defence and 75+ Hitpoints for better gear, plus 34+ Prayer for Steel Skin, Incredible Reflexes and Ultimate Strength (70+ Prayer unlocks Piety). It is possible to clear all three moons around 60 Defence in rune armour using those prayers, but it is not practical for repeat trips. Skilling levels (Cooking, Fishing, Hunter and Herblore around 50+) let you make stronger food and potions on-site.

Recommended stats, gear & supplies

This is a melee fight, so bring a melee setup leaning on tanky armour with strength rather than glass-cannon gear. Eclipse Moon's three-hit attack ramps up the more hits land, so good defensive bonuses cut damage taken and reduce how often you eat. The Wiki recommends armour families that combine high defence with strength — Bandos-style bodies, Barrows pieces and Torva/Justiciar tiers — and warns against low-defence strength gear like obsidian. See our melee gear guide for the families, and use the Boss Gear Finder for your exact best-in-slot.

For the weapon, the key fact is her flat armour: every hit you land has a flat amount shaved off it, so single high-damage hits beat fast multi-hit weapons here (the Ghrazi rapier outperforms the Scythe of Vitur against Eclipse for this reason). Favour a slow, hard-hitting stab weapon over a rapid one. Almost everything else you need is found in Neypotzli itself: the only items you must bring are combat gear and an emergency teleport. Inside, you make moonlight potions (a combined prayer, super-combat and divine super-defence potion) and cook moss lizards or bream for food, both stronger than anything from outside.

Fight mechanics

Eyatlalli's glyph (positioning). Eight sigils surround the Moon. Eyatlalli imbues one of them; during normal attacks you must stand on the lit sigil or you take rapid damage that starts at 1 per tick and quickly doubles up to 16 per tick while stacking a curse that can kill you fast. The lit sigil rotates clockwise after every two standard attacks.

Standard attacks (3-hit melee). Eclipse Moon's basic attack hits three times with a ramping max hit — first hit maxes 4, second 8, third 20, for 32 total. Crucially, if one hit misses, every hit after it also misses, so good melee defence reduces the whole string. Each hit also applies stacks of the Curse of the Moons. No protection prayer reduces any of this — instead lean on Piety / Ultimate Strength, Incredible Reflexes and Steel Skin from our prayer guide.

Eclipse's curse — glancing/blinded. Her curse makes attacks occasionally "glance," reducing your max hit by 12 (8 during Clones). The chance scales up to 100% at 100 stacks, so longer fights get harder — kill quickly.

Searing Rays (New Moon special). A moon shield appears and shoves you behind it, then rays of light sweep the room. Avoid them by moving alongside the shield as it makes one full rotation; it walks at a steady pace and pauses at each corner long enough for a walking player to keep up.

Clones (Full Moon special). You are shoved to the centre and bound in place while clones spawn around you and attack in five cycles of three — 15 attacks total. Face your character toward each clone as it appears to parry the hit and send an undelayed attack back at the boss. Parry accuracy is 100%, so swap to a slow, hard-hitting weapon (and slash or crush also benefit from the accuracy boost). Remember: only melee weapons damage her during Clones.

Strategy & kill rotation

Gather supplies at the Streambound Cavern camp, make a few moonlight potions and food, then enter the Eclipse Moon chamber to the south. During normal attacks, stay on the lit glyph and attack with your stab weapon, moving clockwise with the rotating sigil. After six standard attacks she alternates her two specials. On Searing Rays, follow the shield to dodge the light. On Clones, switch to your slow high-damage weapon and parry each clone — lower-damage players will do most of their work here, since the parry guarantees hits. Keep the fight short so glancing stacks stay low. After the kill you are teleported to a campsite to restock; loot is claimed from the Lunar Chest, which the Perilous Moons quest unlocks.

Notable drops

Loot is claimed from the Lunar Chest, which you can only open once you have completed the Perilous Moons quest. The full drop table is shown above. The signature reward is the Eclipse moon armour set, a ranged set requiring 75 Ranged and 50 Defence to equip, which carries the Eclipse set effect: successful attacks with the eclipse atlatl have a 20% chance to inflict a burn on any non-immune target.

Common mistakes

  • Trying to use protection prayers. They do nothing against any Moon's attacks — bring offensive and defensive prayers (Piety / Ultimate Strength, Incredible Reflexes, Steel Skin) instead, and rely on armour defence to tank.
  • Standing off the lit glyph. The rapid damage doubles to 16 per tick and stacks a curse that kills fast — track the clockwise rotation.
  • Using a fast multi-hit weapon. Her flat armour shaves every hit, so rapid weapons lose more — slow, hard-hitting stab weapons win.
  • Dragging the fight out. Her glancing curse scales to a 100% chance at 100 stacks, cutting your max hit — kill before stacks pile up.
  • Bringing ranged or magic to the Clone phase. Only melee damages her during Clones; ranged and magic deal nothing.

Eclipse Moon Guide — FAQ

What is Eclipse Moon weak to?

She is weak to stab melee attacks. She has +500 magic and ranged defence, and only melee weapons damage her during her Clone phase, so this is purely a melee fight despite the moon-and-light theme.

Do protection prayers work against Eclipse Moon?

No. Protection prayers do nothing against any of the Moons of Peril's attacks. Use offensive and defensive prayers such as Piety, Ultimate Strength, Incredible Reflexes and Steel Skin from our prayer guide, and rely on tanky armour to reduce damage.

What do I need to fight Eclipse Moon?

You must complete the Perilous Moons quest to open the Lunar Chest. The Wiki suggests around 70+ Attack, Strength and Defence with 75+ Hitpoints for a comfortable trip, plus prayers like Steel Skin and Ultimate Strength.

What does Eclipse Moon drop?

Loot is claimed from the Lunar Chest, which you can only open after completing the Perilous Moons quest. See the full drop table shown above the guide for the exact rewards.
