Hespori Guide

The Hespori is a sporadic Farming boss fought in the cave within the west wing of the Farming Guild, which requires level 65 Farming to access. Unlike most bosses, you do not simply walk up and fight it on demand: you plant a hespori seed in the hespori patch, wait 22-32 hours for it to grow, and then fight the boss exactly once per planting. The flower behind the cave entrance blooms when the Hespori is ready.

It is a level 284 monster with 300 Hitpoints, attacking with Ranged and Magic while four flower buds keep it invulnerable. Its big draw is the seed loot: killing and digging it up grants 12,600 Farming experience plus a range of seeds, including rare white lily and anima seeds, with a shot at the bottomless compost bucket and the Tangleroot pet. The fight is short and beginner-friendly, making it a popular weekly farm run.

Requirements & where to fight

The Hespori lives in a cave in the west wing of the Farming Guild, and you need level 65 Farming to enter that wing (this requirement is boostable). You also need one hespori seed for each kill.

To set up a fight you plant the seed in the hespori patch using a seed dibber (not required if you have finished the Farming portion of Barbarian Training), clearing the patch first with a rake if it has weeds. The plant then takes 22-32 hours to grow depending on planting time. Once the flower behind the cave entrance has bloomed, attempting to harvest the seed with a spade awakens the boss and begins the fight.

Recommended stats & gear

The Hespori has very low slash Defence, so a slash melee weapon is the meta approach. The Wiki suggests level 60+ in Attack, Strength and Hitpoints, with at least 60 melee stats, a dragon scimitar, and either high Ranged Defence or Strength-bonus equipment recommended. A special-attack weapon such as a dragon dagger lets you burst the boss down quickly. For exact best-in-slot loadouts, use our Boss Gear Finder above rather than guessing item by item, and see our melee gear guide for the general slash-meta families.

Because the Hespori has a 100% elemental weakness to fire spells, a fire-magic setup is a genuine alternative, especially at lower melee levels. The Wiki recommends a minimum Magic level of 59 for Fire Blast, level 40 Prayer for Protect from Missiles, and good magic gear such as Mystic robes or better, since Hespori has high magic Defence. See our magic gear guide for the families involved.

Inventory & supplies

Pack the planting kit plus a few combat staples (drops cite the Wiki's strategy page):

  • Hespori seed, spade and seed dibber (dibber only if Barbarian Training's planting section is incomplete) to harvest and replant.
  • A special-attack weapon such as a dragon dagger for burst damage.
  • Knives or darts to quickly kill the flower buds.
  • Antipoison (any form) — the Hespori is poisonous, so this protects you.
  • Melee stat boosts such as a super combat potion or super set.
  • A Prayer potion in case the fight runs long or at lower Prayer levels.
  • The rest of the inventory as high-healing cooked food.

Some players skip potions and instead catch one of the stat-boosting butterflies outside the guild. A Rune pouch and Book of the dead can be brought to summon Thralls for extra damage.

Fight mechanics

The Hespori is benign until you try to harvest it, so you can enter the cave, drink potions and switch on prayers before starting. Once awakened it has three attacks and a flower mechanic.

Flower buds (the core mechanic): the Hespori is surrounded by four flower buds that keep it invulnerable while it attacks you. These buds open three times during the fight — on initiation, at 66% health, and at 33% health. Each bud has 10 Hitpoints but dies in one hit from any weapon, which is why knives or darts are handy. The boss only becomes vulnerable once you have killed that round of flowers; its immunity ends immediately after the last flower dies.

Ranged attack: throws green spores that hit twice, with a max hit of 8+8. This is reduced to 2+2 with Protect from Missiles.

Magic attack: a green wave with a max hit of 14, reduced to 3 with Protect from Magic.

Special attack (vines): the message "Hespori entangles you in some vines!" appears and roots you in place, preventing movement and attacks. After 6 seconds (10 ticks) you take 40+ damage unless you break free early by clicking repeatedly on a new tile or on the Hespori (or by using a Transformation Ring). After the fifth "vines loosen" message, one more click frees you. This special is escaped by clicking, not by a protection prayer.

Strategy / kill rotation

Before waking the Hespori, boost your stats, get poison immunity, equip a Ranged weapon, and turn on the right protection prayer. The Wiki notes you should run Protect from Magic if you have high Ranged Defence armour, otherwise Protect from Missiles if you are leaning on higher Magic Defence armour — pick based on your gear. Also turn on melee stat-boosting prayers if available.

Wake the Hespori and kill the first round of flowers with your Ranged weapon. Swap to your special-attack weapon and spec the boss, then switch back to your main slash weapon. When the next round of flowers opens (at 66% and again at 33% health), switch to Ranged and clear them, then resume meleeing. If the fight runs past roughly 30-40 seconds you will be rooted by the vines special and must click to move or attack about seven times to escape. Finish the boss off after the final flower round, then clear the Hespori patch with your spade to receive the drops.

Notable drops

Killing the Hespori and clearing the patch grants 12,600 Farming experience (12,915 with the full farmer's outfit) plus seed loot. The Wiki lists rolls on an anima-seed table and a normal-seed table. Marquee rewards include:

  • Anima seeds — Attas, Iasor or Kronos, used for the anima patches in the Farming Guild.
  • White lily seed — the standout flower-seed drop.
  • Bottomless compost bucket — a 1/35 pre-roll on the normal table; it holds up to 10,000 compost of any kind.
  • Tangleroot — the Farming pet, a tertiary drop whose rate scales with Farming level (1/5375 at level 65 up to 1/4525 at 99).

The full drop table is shown above; this guide only names the headline uniques.

Common mistakes

  • Attacking the boss before the flowers are dead. The four buds keep it invulnerable, so clear each round of flowers first or your hits do nothing.
  • Trying to prayer-flick the vines special. The 40+ vine special cannot be reduced by a protection prayer — you must click to move or attack repeatedly to break free.
  • Bringing the wrong protection prayer. Match it to your armour: Protect from Magic with high Ranged Defence gear, otherwise Protect from Missiles.
  • Forgetting antipoison. The Hespori poisons you, so a dose of antipoison saves chip damage over the fight.
  • Forgetting the replant kit. Without a hespori seed (and a spade, plus a seed dibber if Barbarian Training is incomplete) you cannot replant for the next kill.

Hespori Guide — FAQ

What level do I need to fight the Hespori?

You need level 65 Farming to enter the west wing of the Farming Guild where it is fought, and one hespori seed per kill. The requirement is boostable. The Wiki also suggests 60+ Attack, Strength and Hitpoints for the fight itself.

How is the Hespori weak, and what gear should I use?

It has very low slash Defence, so a slash melee weapon plus a special-attack weapon is the meta. It also has a 100% weakness to fire spells, making a fire-magic setup a solid alternative at lower melee levels. Use our Boss Gear Finder for exact loadouts.

How do I escape the vines special attack?

When "Hespori entangles you in some vines!" appears you are rooted and will take 40+ damage after 6 seconds. Break free by clicking repeatedly on a new tile or on the Hespori; after the fifth "vines loosen" message, one more click frees you. A protection prayer does not stop this attack.

How long does the Hespori take to grow?

After planting a hespori seed it takes 22-32 hours to grow, depending on planting time. The flower behind the cave entrance blooms when the boss is ready, and you fight it once per planting.
