Twinflame staff

“A magical staff imbued with the power of ice and fire.”

The twinflame staff is a one-handed magic weapon released with the Royal Titans update on 5 February 2025, requiring 60 Magic to wield. It attacks and casts at speed 6 (3.6s) and is built for the standard spellbook, where its passive twin-cast fires a second spell for 40% bonus damage on top of a flat +10% accuracy and damage boost. You craft it from a battlestaff plus two element crowns looted from the Royal Titans, and it trades on the Grand Exchange for roughly 7.3M.

Equipment bonuses

The twinflame staff's offensive profile is built around magic, not melee: it gives +12 Magic attack alongside a respectable +28 crush and +22 strength for the rare bash, and casts at speed 6 (3.6 seconds per cast).

The real value is the passive, not the +12 Magic attack bonus on paper — the twin-cast and the +10% standard-spellbook boost do the heavy lifting, and the staff needs only 60 Magic to equip.

How to get the twinflame staff

The twinflame staff isn't a direct drop — you build it. The recipe combines a battlestaff, an ice element staff crown and a fire element staff crown in a 4-tick creation action, producing the finished staff.

The two crowns are the hard part. They're looted from the Royal Titans duo boss: the ice element staff crown comes from Eldric the Ice King and the fire element staff crown from Branda the Fire Queen. The drop chance scales with your share of the damage — a player dealing 100% of the damage has up to a 1/75 chance of each crown per kill, dropping to around 1/150 at 50% damage contribution.

If you'd rather skip the grind, the staff is tradeable and sits on the Grand Exchange around 7.3M. You can compare it against other mid-game magic options on our magic gear page, and check the live price any time on the OSRS GE price tracker.

How the twin-cast passive works

Three effects stack on this staff when you cast from the standard spellbook:

  • +10% accuracy and damage on every standard-spellbook cast.
  • Twin-cast — when casting an elemental spell (excluding Strike and Surge spells), the staff fires a second spell that lands one tick after the first, dealing 40% of the first hit's damage, rounded down. The second hit gives no Magic or Hitpoints XP and consumes no extra runes or Tome of fire charges.
  • Auto-elemental switching — against an NPC with a different elemental weakness than the spell you've selected, the staff auto-casts the matching elemental spell instead, provided you have the runes and Magic level. For example, autocasting Wind Wave at a moss giant fires Fire Wave instead.

Taken together — the slower speed-6 cast, the bonus second hit and the +10% boost — the wiki gives the staff an effective damage bonus of 28% for standard-spellbook spells. It also acts as an infinite source of fire and water runes like a steam battlestaff, so elemental and steam spells cost only their non-elemental runes.

Is the twinflame staff worth it?

For a mid-game caster the twinflame staff is one of the strongest autocasting options you can equip at just 60 Magic. The wiki notes it will typically outperform most other autocasting staves other than the dragon hunter wand (against dragons) and the harmonised nightmare staff, right up until 95 Magic when Surge spells reach full power.

Against powered staves the picture is more nuanced: for most enemies without an elemental weakness it's the stronger pick until roughly 80 Magic, and against enemies that do have an elemental weakness it can beat most powered staves other than the Tumeken's shadow. So it sits as a genuine bridge weapon — excellent value from 60 Magic, gradually overtaken by top-tier Surge/powered setups as you approach the late game. If you're gearing a magic loadout, see the full magic gear guide and the boss gear finder for where it slots in.

Twinflame staff FAQ

What level do you need for the twinflame staff?

You need 60 Magic to wield it. There's no Attack or other combat requirement — the staff is built for casting, not melee.

How do you get the twinflame staff?

You make it. Combine a battlestaff with an ice element staff crown and a fire element staff crown in a 4-tick creation action. The crowns are looted from the Royal Titans — the ice crown from Eldric the Ice King and the fire crown from Branda the Fire Queen — at up to a 1/75 chance each when you deal 100% of the damage. It's also tradeable, so you can buy it on the GE for around 7.3M.

What is the twinflame staff's special effect?

It has no special attack, but its passive is strong. On the standard spellbook it gives +10% accuracy and damage, and when casting an elemental spell (excluding Strike and Surge) it twin-casts — firing a second spell one tick later for 40% of the first hit's damage, with no extra rune cost and no XP from the second hit. The wiki rates this as an effective 28% damage bonus for standard-spellbook spells.

Does the twinflame staff give free runes?

Yes — it acts as an infinite source of fire and water runes when casting spells, just like a steam battlestaff. You still need the other runes for each spell, but you never have to carry fire or water runes for it.

Is the twinflame staff better than a powered staff?

It depends on the target and your Magic level. For most enemies without an elemental weakness it's the stronger choice until about 80 Magic. Against enemies that do have an elemental weakness it can beat most powered staves other than the Tumeken's shadow. As you approach 95 Magic, full-power Surge spells and top powered staves overtake it.

How much is the twinflame staff worth?

It trades for roughly 7.3M on the Grand Exchange, with a buy limit of 8 every 4 hours. The exact live price moves around — check the chart on this page or the OSRS GE price tracker for the current figure.

What is the twinflame staff's attack speed?

It attacks and casts at speed 6, which is one cast every 3.6 seconds (6 ticks × 0.6s). That's slower than a powered staff's 4-tick attack, but the twin-cast and +10% boost are balanced around the slower speed.

Does the twinflame staff auto-switch elements?

Yes. Against an NPC whose elemental weakness differs from the spell you've selected, the staff automatically casts the matching elemental spell — as long as you have the runes and the Magic level for it. For example, autocasting Wind Wave at a moss giant fires Fire Wave instead.
