Master wand

“A master level wand.”

The master wand is a one-handed staff and wand requiring 60 Magic to wield, attacking at 4 ticks (2.4s). It gives +20 Magic attack and +20 Magic defence and is one of only four weapons that can autocast both Ancient Magicks and Arceuus combat spells alongside the Standard spellbook. You earn it with pizazz points at the Mage Training Arena or buy it on the Grand Exchange for roughly 5.1M. It is an affordable autocast staple rather than a top-end weapon — it can be upgraded into the Kodai wand with a Kodai insignia.

Equipment bonuses

The master wand's defining numbers are +20 Magic attack and +20 Magic defence, with no offensive damage bonus of its own. It swings on a 4-tick (2.4-second) staff timer and needs 60 Magic to wield.

Those +20/+20 Magic bonuses make it a clean, low-requirement autocast wand whose real value is the spellbooks it unlocks rather than raw stats.

How to get the master wand

There are two ways to get a master wand:

  • Mage Training Arena — exchange pizazz points with the teacher wand equipped or in your inventory. The master wand itself costs 240 Telekinetic, 240 Alchemist, 2,400 Enchantment and 240 Graveyard pizazz points. Buying it together with all three prerequisite wands from scratch costs 480 Telekinetic, 530 Alchemist, 4,800 Enchantment and 480 Graveyard points.
  • Grand Exchange — because it is tradeable, you can simply buy one from another player for around 5.1M, skipping the Arena grind entirely.

You can track the live price and recent history on our OSRS GE price tracker.

Is the master wand worth it?

For a 60 Magic weapon, the master wand is excellent value. Its +20 Magic attack matches the tier of other top wands, and its real edge is flexibility: it is one of ten weapons able to autocast Ancient Magicks, and one of only four able to autocast both Ancient Magicks and Arceuus combat spells as well as the Standard spellbook. That makes it a strong, cheap choice for Barrage, Ice spells and Demonbane casting.

It is not a best-in-slot weapon. The Kodai wand — which the master wand is literally upgraded into using a Kodai insignia from the Chambers of Xeric — beats it outright, and Tumeken's shadow sits far above both at the high end. Treat the master wand as the affordable autocast staple you use until you can fund a Tumeken's shadow or a Kodai. Browse the rest of the tier on our magic gear page.

Autocasting and spellbook support

The master wand's headline feature is its spellbook coverage. It can autocast the Standard, Ancient Magicks and Arceuus spellbooks, which is why it stays relevant well past 60 Magic. Of the ten weapons that can autocast Ancient Magicks, only four — the master wand among them — can also autocast Arceuus combat spells, giving you Blood, Ice and Demonbane casting from a single cheap wand.

Mechanically it is a one-handed staff, so you keep a shield or book slot free for extra defence or a magic damage source. When you outgrow it, the master wand becomes the base for the Kodai wand upgrade if you own a Kodai insignia. Planning a magic setup? Use the boss gear finder to slot it into a loadout.
