Brine sabre

“A salty sword.”

The brine sabre is a one-handed slash sword requiring 40 Attack, released with Olaf's Quest on 10 April 2007. It attacks once every 4 ticks (2.4s) and carries +47 slash and +46 strength — a slight step above the rune scimitar. It only drops from brine rats (47 Slayer) at 1/512, so despite weak stats it trades for roughly 267K.

Equipment bonuses

The brine sabre's offence comes from its +47 slash attack and +46 melee strength, paired with a 4-tick (2.4-second) swing — marginally ahead of the rune scimitar's strength and slash.

Those bonuses, the 40 Attack requirement and the 2.4-second speed make it a niche level-40 pure training sword rather than a meaningful endgame upgrade.

How to get the brine sabre

The brine sabre is dropped only by brine rats, the sole monsters that drop it. They live in the Brine Rat Cavern near Rellekka, the cave reached during Olaf's Quest, and require 47 Slayer to fight.

  • Drop rate: 1/512 from brine rats.
  • Buy it instead: it is tradeable, so you can skip the grind and buy it on the Grand Exchange for roughly 267K — the live price and chart are shown above.

Because the only source is the rarely-killed brine rat at a low rate, the sabre sells well above its stats, unlike the cheaper rune scimitar. If you do farm it yourself, see the Slayer guide for getting to 47 Slayer. Browse more weapons in our melee gear picks.

Special attack — Liquify

The brine sabre has a special attack called Liquify that consumes 75% of your special attack energy. It doubles your accuracy and increases your Strength, Attack and Defence levels by 25% of the damage dealt.

The catch: Liquify only works underwater, so it is useless in nearly all of the game and the sabre plays as a plain slash weapon everywhere else.
