The dragon battleaxe is a members' melee weapon that needs 60 Attack and completion of Heroes' Quest to wield. It swings on a slow 6-tick (3.6s) speed, so it's rarely a main weapon — players carry it for its Rampage special attack, a one-off Strength boost you fire before switching to a faster weapon. It drops from Vorkath and the Alchemical Hydra and is a cheap Grand Exchange buy, usually a few hundred thousand coins.
Equipment bonuses
The dragon battleaxe carries +70 slash and +65 crush attack with a hefty +85 melee strength, but a negative -2 stab and -1 ranged defence. At a 6-tick swing (3.6 seconds) it hits slowly for its damage, which is why it's used for its special rather than sustained combat.

Other bonuses
Those bonuses sit behind a 60 Attack requirement (plus Heroes' Quest), but the +85 strength is really there to feed the Rampage special — most players unsheathe it for one cast and swap back to a quicker weapon.

Dragon battleaxe special attack — Rampage
The dragon battleaxe's special attack is Rampage, which costs 100% special-attack energy. Your character hefts the axe overhead, bellows, and the move drains your Attack, Defence, Ranged and Magic levels by 10% while raising your Strength by 10 + (levels drained / 4), rounded down.
Because the boost scales with how many levels get drained, the more inflated those four stats are when you fire it, the bigger the Strength gain. With Attack, Defence, Ranged and Magic at 90, the special drops each by 9 and adds +19 Strength. Stacking potions like a Zamorak brew, super restore and ranging/magic potions can push a 99-Strength player up to 120 — the highest possible outside a couple of special game events. The drained combat stats can be topped back up with a restore or super attack potion before you fight.
This is the whole reason the axe is popular: you almost never swing it. You fire Rampage for the Strength spike, then revert to a real weapon such as a dragon scimitar for your actual damage.
How to get the dragon battleaxe
The dragon battleaxe is tradeable, so the simplest route is buying it off the Grand Exchange for a few hundred thousand coins. It can also be bought from a shop — Happy Heroes' H'emporium in the Heroes' Guild and the Myths' Guild Weaponry — at 200,000 coins each, though stock is limited.
As a drop it comes from a small number of high-level bosses:
- Vorkath (post-quest) — roughly 1/37.5 (listed as 2 × 2/150).
- Alchemical Hydra — roughly 1/25.25 (listed as 2 × 2/101).
- Master Treasure Trail reward casket — 1/30.3.
Like all dragon equipment it cannot be made with Smithing. Once you own one you'll want melee gear and a faster main weapon to pair with the Rampage boost.
Dragon battleaxe FAQ
What level do you need for the dragon battleaxe?
You need 60 Attack to wield it, plus completion of the Heroes' Quest. Without finishing Heroes' Quest you can't equip it even at level 60.
What is the dragon battleaxe's special attack?
Its special is Rampage, costing 100% special energy. It drains your Attack, Defence, Ranged and Magic by 10% and raises your Strength by 10 + (levels drained / 4), rounded down — a one-off Strength boost you fire before switching to a stronger weapon.
How much Strength does the dragon battleaxe special give?
It depends on how high those four combat stats are when you use it. At 90 in each it grants +19 Strength. With potion stacking a 99-Strength player can reach 120 Strength, the highest in the game outside a couple of rare event buffs.
How do you get a dragon battleaxe?
Buy it on the Grand Exchange, or from the Heroes' Guild / Myths' Guild shops for 200,000 coins. As a drop it comes from Vorkath (about 1/37.5), the Alchemical Hydra (about 1/25.25), and master clue caskets (1/30.3).
Is the dragon battleaxe good?
Not as a main weapon — it swings slowly at 3.6 seconds and it's only the third strongest battleaxe, behind the leaf-bladed battleaxe and the zombie axe. Its value is the Rampage Strength boost, used as a one-off spec before switching to a faster weapon.
How much is a dragon battleaxe worth?
It's an inexpensive item, typically a few hundred thousand coins. Check the live price and history chart above for the current Grand Exchange value, since it shifts over time.
