Dragon halberd

“A dragon halberd.”

The dragon halberd is a two-handed polearm that you can equip with 60 Attack, 30 Strength and completion of the Regicide quest. Like every halberd it attacks from a 2-tile range, so it can hit monsters from one square back and is the classic tool for safespotting. It swings slowly at 7 ticks (4.2s) but its Sweep special hits multiple targets, making it a budget pick for clustered NPCs and a way to reach Zulrah in melee. Buy it from the Tyras Camp shop, or obtain it from Zulrah, master clues, and the Gauntlet Reward Chest. Costs a few hundred thousand coins on the Grand Exchange.

Equipment bonuses

The dragon halberd's defining stats are +95 slash attack and +89 strength, so it is a pure slash weapon — its +70 stab and 0 crush bonuses are an afterthought. It is a slow swing at 7 ticks (4.2 seconds) per attack and needs 60 Attack and 30 Strength (plus the Regicide quest) to wield.

Those numbers put it close to the dragon 2h sword in raw output, but the halberd's 2-tile reach and a small set of defensive bonuses (+4 slash, +5 crush defence) are what set it apart.

How to get the dragon halberd

There are four ways to get a dragon halberd:

  • Tyras Camp shop — after completing Regicide you can buy one from the weapon stall at Tyras Camp for 325,000 coins.
  • The Gauntlet — a 1/24 noted drop from the Reward Chest (the crystal halberd crafted inside the minigame is a separate, untradeable item).
  • Zulrah — drops the dragon halberd at a rate of 2/249 per kill, with two rolls on its drop table.
  • Master clue scrolls — an uncommon reward from Master Treasure Trail caskets.

Like all dragon equipment and every halberd, it cannot be made with the Smithing skill. The fastest route for most players is simply to buy it off the Grand Exchange.

Special attack — Sweep

The dragon halberd's special attack is called Sweep and consumes 30% of your special attack energy. It applies a 10% damage boost on the hit. Against "large" monsters — anything bigger than 1x1, which covers most bosses — Sweep lands a second hit, although that extra hit rolls with 25% reduced accuracy.

In a multi-combat area Sweep can strike up to 10 NPCs in a 3x1 area centred on your target, which is what makes the halberd a niche AoE training and slayer tool. In PvP the same special is capped at 3 players. Its accuracy rolls against the target's slash defence.

Is the dragon halberd worth it?

The dragon halberd is the third strongest halberd in the game, so it is a budget and mid-game choice rather than best in slot — the crystal halberd and the noxious halberd both outclass it. What keeps it relevant is the 2-tile attack range: it lets you melee monsters you otherwise could not reach, hit Zulrah, and safespot dangerous NPCs.

For raw damage on a single target a faster one-handed weapon like the abyssal whip usually wins, so most players keep the halberd as a situational swap. If you want stronger general-purpose melee gear, see our melee gear guide.

Dragon halberd FAQ

What level do you need for the dragon halberd?

You need 60 Attack and 30 Strength to wield it, plus completion of the Regicide quest. Without finishing Regicide you cannot equip it.

How do you get a dragon halberd?

Buy one from the Tyras Camp shop for 325,000 coins after Regicide, get it as a drop from Zulrah (2/249, two rolls per kill), receive it from Master clue caskets, or simply buy it on the Grand Exchange.

What is the dragon halberd's special attack?

Its special is Sweep, costing 30% energy. It adds a 10% damage boost, deals a second hit on large monsters (at 25% reduced accuracy), and can hit up to 10 NPCs in multi-combat (capped at 3 players in PvP).

Why does the dragon halberd have a longer range?

Like all halberds it attacks from a 2-tile range, meaning it can strike a target one square away. This is what lets it reach Zulrah in melee and safespot monsters that cannot reach you back.

Is the dragon halberd still good?

It is the third strongest halberd, behind the crystal and noxious halberds, so it is a budget and utility weapon rather than top tier. It stays useful for its range, safespotting and multi-target special, but a faster weapon out-damages it on single targets.

How much is a dragon halberd worth?

It trades for a few hundred thousand coins. For the exact current value, check the live price and history chart above on this page or the GE price tracker.

Update history

26 April 2019

The dragon halberd special attack was limited to three targets in PvP, to prevent unintentionally high experience rates.

7 June 2018

The special attack previously hit only the main target on the central tile but an unlimited number of monsters on the two adjacent tiles. It now caps the total at 10 monsters, while allowing monsters on the same tile as the primary target to be hit.

26 – 31 January 2005

The item's inventory sprite was adjusted.
