Noxious halberd

“A venomous halberd created from the parts of an araxyte.”

The Noxious halberd (often shortened to “Nox”) is a two-handed melee polearm and the strongest halberd in Old School RuneScape. It requires 80 Attack to wield, attacks on a fast 5-tick cycle, and — like every polearm — reaches 2 tiles, so it can hit through a square. It's built from three rare untradeable pieces dropped by Araxxor, and the finished weapon trades on the Grand Exchange for tens of millions of coins.

Equipment bonuses

The Noxious halberd is a pure slash polearm: a strong +132 slash attack and a big +142 strength bonus, plus +80 stab for its secondary jab style. Everything that makes it stand out beyond the table — the 5-tick speed, the 2-tile reach, the venom chance and the Virulence special — is covered below.

How to get the Noxious halberd

The Noxious halberd isn't a single drop — you build it from three untradeable pieces, all rare drops from Araxxor: the noxious point, the noxious blade and the noxious pommel. Combining all three with 72 Smithing and 72 Crafting (both boostable) produces the finished weapon.

Noxious halberd pieces — Araxxor drop rate
PieceRate per kill
Noxious point1 in 200
Noxious blade1 in 200
Noxious pommel1 in 200
Any single halberd piece drops at 1/200, and — like the Abyssal bludgeon — you can't roll a duplicate piece until the current set is complete, so the pieces fill in evenly. Jagex confirmed these rates on 4 September 2024. Source: OSRS Wiki — Araxxor.

Because that grind takes a lot of Araxxor kills, most players simply buy the finished Noxious halberd from the Grand Exchange (buy limit 8 every 4 hours) rather than assembling it themselves.

Not to be confused with the araxyte fang. Araxxor also drops the araxyte fang (1/600), but that is a separate item used to make the amulet of rancour — it is not a halberd component.

The 2-tile polearm reach

As a polearm, the Noxious halberd has an attack range of 2 tiles rather than the single tile of most melee weapons. In practice that lets it strike a target a square further away — including diagonally — which is useful for hitting large multi-tile bosses and for certain safespots.

Two extra mechanics set it apart from older halberds. First, it swings on a 5-tick cycle (3.0 seconds) instead of the usual 7-tick polearm speed, so it lands more hits per minute. Second, it always deals your max hit against the acidic, mirrorback and ruptura araxytes that hatch during the Araxxor fight, and can hit the Corporeal Beast for full damage on its stab attack style — both situations where a wide-reaching, reliable polearm shines.

Noxious halberd FAQ

How do you get the Noxious halberd?
You build it from three untradeable pieces — the noxious point, noxious blade and noxious pommel — all rare drops from Araxxor. Each piece drops at 1/200, and you can't roll a duplicate piece until the current set is complete. Most players skip the grind and buy the finished halberd off the Grand Exchange.
What level do you need for the Noxious halberd?
80 Attack to wield it. Building it yourself from the pieces also needs 72 Smithing and 72 Crafting (both boostable), each step giving 100 XP — but if you buy the finished weapon off the Grand Exchange you only need the 80 Attack.
How much is the Noxious halberd worth?
Tens of millions of coins on the Grand Exchange — see the live price and history chart above. The exact figure moves with Araxxor supply and melee demand.
What is the Noxious halberd's attack range?
2 tiles, like every polearm. That means it can attack a target one square diagonally or through an extra tile of distance, which is handy at bosses such as the Corporeal Beast and for safespotting.
How fast does the Noxious halberd attack?
It attacks on a 5-tick cycle (3.0 seconds) — notably faster than older halberds, which swing on a 7-tick cycle. The faster speed combined with its high strength bonus is a big part of why it's the best halberd.
Does the Noxious halberd poison the target?
Yes — it has a 33% chance to envenom the target on a hit (rising to 50% with a Serpentine helm equipped), provided the target isn't venom-immune.
What does the Noxious halberd's special attack do?
Its special, Virulence, costs 50% special-attack energy and can only be used while you're poisoned or venomed. It instantly cures that affliction, and your next accurate hit has its minimum hit raised by the damage the cure prevented — so a player about to take 16 poison damage hits for between 16 and their max. The effect is lost if you switch weapon or log out.
Is the Noxious halberd better than the crystal halberd?
Yes. The Noxious halberd has more slash and strength bonus than the crystal halberd and attacks faster (5-tick vs 7-tick), making it the strongest halberd in the game. It also envenoms targets, which the crystal halberd doesn't.
