How this is worked out, and what it doesn't count
  • Firemaking XP per game = (6 × lights + 3 × roots or 3.8 × kindling) × your level, plus 100 × your level for subduing with 500+ points. The level is updated after every game.
  • Points: light 25, root 10, kindling 25, repair 25, healing a pyromancer 75 (since October 2024). Above the strategy's own points, the extra points are feeds; below it, the strategy's whole mix shrinks in proportion.
  • Rolls: 500 points = 2, each further 500 = 1 more, and the part in between is a chance of one more roll.
  • Loot: the OSRS Wiki reward cart tables at the levels you enter. Values are averages over many rolls; real luck varies a lot.
  • Not counted: Woodcutting, Fletching and Construction XP, warmth and food, time to collect from the cart, and dying in the prison (all points are lost).

Wintertodt FAQ

How many Wintertodt games do I need for 99 Firemaking?
On a mass world burning roots at about 675 points a game: about 490 games from level 50 and 460 from level 70. Fletching kindling scores more points but gives less Firemaking XP, so it takes about 600 games from 50. XP per game grows with your level, so the calculator works it out one game at a time. Enter your own level and points above for your count.
How much Firemaking XP does one Wintertodt game give?
Every action pays a multiple of your current Firemaking level: lighting a brazier 6 times your level, a bruma root 3 times and a bruma kindling 3.8 times. Subduing the Wintertodt with at least 500 points adds 100 times your level. Burning 675 points of roots is about 21,100 XP a game at level 70 and 29,800 at 99. Below 500 points there is no subdue XP and no reward.
How many reward cart rolls do Wintertodt points give?
500 points give 2 rolls, and every further 500 points gives one more. Points between two milestones are a chance of one extra roll: 750 points is 2 rolls plus a 50% chance of a third, so 2.5 on average. The loot is decided when you search the cart, at your skill levels then, not when you earn the points.
What are the odds of getting the Phoenix pet from Wintertodt?
Each reward roll has a 1 in 5,000 chance. Rolls are independent, so there is no guaranteed number. At about 675 points a game, half of players have it after about 1,480 games; solo games with 11,500 points reach the same chance in about 150 games.
Is solo or mass Wintertodt better?
It depends on what you want. The OSRS Wiki estimates about 350,000 Firemaking XP an hour at 99 on a mass world burning roots, and about 48 reward rolls an hour solo with fletching and healing, at about 240,000 XP an hour. Mass worlds level faster; long solo games give more rolls and Construction XP.
Does the pyromancer outfit boost the Wintertodt subdue XP?
No. The full outfit adds 2.5% to the Firemaking XP from your actions (single pieces add 0.2% to 0.8%), but the OSRS Wiki says experience-boosting sets do not apply to finishing a round of Wintertodt. The calculator applies the boost to action XP only.
