What this plan does not count

  • XP per game is the Wiki hourly rate divided by 6 games, an average for an efficient player. Mass worlds, solo games and your pouch change it. Enter your own XP per game for your speed.
  • Points per game and games an hour are estimates you set above, not your record.
  • Pearls and rare rewards are averages and chances, not a promise. Lanterns and dyes traded to Apprentice Felix for pearls (100 and 50) are not counted.
  • Pearl searches (25 pearls for one search) and the Big-search option change nothing here: Big-search is five normal searches.
  • Rune quantities for runes above your level follow a Wiki editor's note, not a Jagex statement.
How this is worked out
  • Games: XP to your goal, one level at a time, ÷ Runecraft XP a game at that level, rounded up. XP a game = the Wiki XP-per-hour rate for your level (25,000 at level 40 up to 70,000 at 99) ÷ 6 games an hour. The rates are the ones the Runecraft calculator uses (OSRS Wiki Pay-to-play Runecraft training table; Crafting and Mining XP from the same table).
  • End of game: 45 × your Runecraft level, when you made at least 300 energy (OSRS Wiki Guardians of the Rift, revision 15351348). It is part of the hourly rate, so under 3 points a game removes it.
  • Searches = the smaller of (saved + per game × games) elemental and catalytic points. Each 100 energy of a type is one point, at most 10 a type a game.
  • Pearls: 14 to 16 on a 18-in-140 roll, or 18 in 125 once you own every pouch (OSRS Wiki Rewards Guardian, revision 15381413, checked 2026-10-25). The range is the middle 80% of outcomes.
  • Shop prices from Temple Supplies (revision 15318800): the needle and lantern became buyable on 19 August 2026.
  • Rune value: each rune's instant-sell price and its own last trade time, from OSRS Wiki real-time GE prices through our own copy. An item with no trade in 48 hours withholds the value.

About Guardians of the Rift

Guardians of the Rift is a Runecraft minigame in the Temple of the Eye, under the Wizards' Tower. You need the Temple of the Eye quest and level 27 Runecraft. In each game you mine guardian fragments, craft runes at the active altars and power up the Great Guardian with elemental and catalytic guardian stones. A closed rift gives Runecraft XP and points; one elemental and one catalytic point buy a search of the Rewards Guardian, which gives runes, abyssal pearls, essence pouches and rare rewards. Pearls buy the Raiments of the Eye, the Abyssal needle for the colossal pouch and the other Temple Supplies. See the Runecraft calculator to compare Guardians of the Rift with other training methods.

Guardians of the Rift FAQ

How many Guardians of the Rift games does it take to get 99 Runecraft?

About 1,350 games from level 27, or about 1,130 from level 77, using the OSRS Wiki experience rates at about 6 games an hour. Faster games, team play or a lower level change the count, so enter your own level and pace above.

How much XP does one Guardians of the Rift game give?

At the end of a game you get 45 times your Runecraft level (4,455 at level 99), as long as you made at least 300 energy. You also get XP during the game for crafting runes and powering the Great Guardian. The Wiki hourly rates work out to about 8,300 XP a game at level 77 and 11,700 at level 99.

How many searches for the full Raiments of the Eye?

The four pieces cost 1,350 abyssal pearls. Pearls come in rolls of 14 to 16, so a search averages 1.93 pearls, or 2.16 once you own every essence pouch or the colossal pouch. That is about 700 searches (625 with every pouch), or about 175 games at 4 searches a game. Luck moves this by roughly a hundred searches either way.

How do elemental and catalytic points turn into reward searches?

Each search costs one elemental and one catalytic point. Every 100 energy of a type gives one point, up to 10 of a type in a game. Points of one type without a partner stay saved for later games, so an even split gives the most searches. You can also search for 25 abyssal pearls.

What are the odds of the Abyssal protector pet?

1 in 4,000 per search. After 4,504 searches, the count for level 77 to 99 at 4 a game, the chance of having had it is about 68%. Imbuing essence during the game does not roll the Rift guardian skilling pet.

Do the Raiments of the Eye give extra Runecraft XP?

No. Each piece gives 10% more runes when you craft, and the full set gives 60%. The extra runes give no XP, so this calculator does not change the game count for them.
