Dragon longsword

“A very powerful sword.”

The dragon longsword is a members' slash weapon and the third-strongest longsword in Old School RuneScape, behind only Vesta's longsword and the 3rd age longsword. To wield it you need 60 Attack and you must have completed the Lost City quest. It swings on a 5-tick (3.0s) attack and brings +69 slash with +71 strength, plus a Cleave special attack that boosts your max hit. You buy it from Jukat in Zanaris for 100,000 coins or get it from elite Treasure Trails — though it usually trades cheaper on the Grand Exchange.

Equipment bonuses

The dragon longsword's defining bonuses are +69 slash attack and +71 strength, with a smaller +58 stab option and a slight -2 crush penalty. It attacks once every 5 ticks (3.0 seconds) and needs 60 Attack to wield.

That +69 slash and +71 strength on a 3.0-second slash weapon made it a long-running training and PKing staple before the dragon scimitar and abyssal whip arrived in 2005.

How to get the dragon longsword

The dragon longsword cannot be made with Smithing — like all dragon weapons, players can't forge it. There are two ways to obtain it:

  • Zanaris marketplace — buy it from Jukat for 100,000 coins. Reaching the Zanaris market requires a Diamond to enter.
  • Elite Treasure Trails — it can be received as a clue-scroll reward.

To actually wield it you need 60 Attack and you must have completed the Lost City quest. Note that the 100,000-coin figure is Jukat's fixed shop price — on the Grand Exchange it typically trades for less, so check the live price and history chart above before buying.

Cleave special attack

The dragon longsword has a special attack called Cleave, which raises your maximum hit by 25% for one hit and consumes 25% of your special attack energy.

The accuracy roll for Cleave is based on the attack bonus of your currently selected combat style, rolled against the opponent's slash defence. It's a cheap burst-damage spec that helped keep the longsword popular in early melee training and PvP. Higher up the meta the dragon scimitar and abyssal whip have long since taken over as the go-to melee weapons.

Dragon longsword FAQ

What level do you need for a dragon longsword?

How do you get a dragon longsword?

What is the dragon longsword's special attack?

Its special attack is Cleave, which raises your maximum hit by 25% for one hit for 25% special attack energy. Its accuracy is based on your current combat style's attack bonus, rolled against the target's slash defence.

Is the dragon longsword good?

It's a solid early melee weapon — the third-strongest longsword in the game, with +69 slash and +71 strength. For a long time it was the weapon of choice for training and PKing, but the dragon scimitar (faster) and abyssal whip introduced in 2005 are now preferred for most melee setups.

Can you make a dragon longsword with Smithing?
