The dragon sword is a one-handed stab weapon requiring 60 Attack to wield. It attacks once every 4 ticks (2.4s) and carries a +65 stab attack with +63 strength — the highest stab bonus of the standard shortswords, though the leaf-bladed sword edges it on raw stab. Its real draw is the Wild Stab special attack, which makes it a budget spec-stick for PvP and prayer-flicking. It drops only from wyrms (1/2,000 on task), and trades for a few hundred thousand coins.
Equipment bonuses
The dragon sword leans on stab: +65 stab attack and +63 strength, with a quick 4-tick (2.4s) swing and only a 60 Attack requirement.

Other bonuses
Slash (+55) trails the stab bonus, and crush is negative (-2), so always fight on the stab style to get the most from it.
Grand Exchange price history
How to get the dragon sword
The dragon sword is a rare drop from wyrms, the only monsters that drop it (alongside the dragon harpoon). It can also come from a lost ironwood crate reward.
- Off a Slayer task: 1/10,000 per kill.
- On a wyrm Slayer task: the rate improves sharply to 1/2,000.
Because it is tradeable, most players simply buy it off the Grand Exchange rather than farm wyrms for it. Like all dragon equipment, it cannot be made with the Smithing skill.
Wild Stab special attack
The dragon sword's special attack, Wild Stab, consumes 40% of special attack energy to hit with 25% increased accuracy and damage. If the target is using Protect from Melee, the spec ignores that prayer for one attack — and since a 2025 update it now penetrates prayers used by NPCs too. The special rolls off the opponent's stab defence regardless of the combat style you're set to.
That prayer-ignoring spec is what gives this cheap weapon a niche in the wilderness, where it sees use as an off-hand spec switch. For broader PvP and PvM gear, see our melee gear guide.
Is the dragon sword worth it?
For the price, the spec is the value. As a main weapon the dragon sword is outclassed — the dragon scimitar attacks at the same 4-tick speed but on slash, better for general training, and the abyssal whip is the standard mid-game upgrade above it. The leaf-bladed sword beats its stab attack by 2, though the dragon sword carries 13 more strength.
Where it earns its keep is the Wild Stab prayer-ignoring spec, making it a budget pick for PvP spec switches. If you just want a fast, cheap weapon to level Attack, the dragon scimitar is the more efficient buy.
