OSRS Smithing Calculator
Smithing's fast lane is the Blast Furnace, where you smelt bars without needing coal for every step. Goldsmith gauntlets turn gold bars into the quickest XP (around 350k XP/hr), while steel, mithril, adamantite and runite bars give slower but profitable training. The old-school alternative is making steel cannonballs — barely any XP but fully AFK and useful for ironmen.

Fastest route to 99 Smithing
- Lvl 1 Bronze bars (smelting) 30,000 XP/hr
- Lvl 15 Giants' Foundry (minigame) 150,000 XP/hr
- Lvl 40 Gold bars (Blast Furnace, goldsmith gauntlets) 350,000 XP/hr
Cannonballs are slow but AFK and give ammo you'll actually use; the Blast Furnace is where the real Smithing speed is.

Smithing calculator — FAQ
What's the fastest way to train Smithing in OSRS?
Smelting gold bars at the Blast Furnace with goldsmith gauntlets is the fastest Smithing XP at around 350k XP/hr. The higher-tier bars (steel through runite) are slower but can turn a profit, so it's a speed-versus-gold trade-off.
Is the Blast Furnace worth it for Smithing?
Yes — it halves the coal needed per bar, which is the main bottleneck for higher-tier smithing. It's the standard fast-training venue, especially for ironmen who mine their own ore and want to stretch their coal.
How do you train Smithing AFK?
Making steel cannonballs is the classic AFK Smithing method — the XP is low (around 16k XP/hr) but you barely touch the keyboard, and the cannonballs are useful ammo, which makes it a favourite for ironmen training in the background.
