The adamant platebody is a free-to-play melee body slot armour that sits between mithril and rune in the tier ladder. It requires 30 Defence to wear and gives strong melee and ranged defence (+65 stab, +63 slash, +63 ranged defence) at the cost of heavy Magic and Ranged attack penalties, like every platebody. Players reach it by smithing 5 adamantite bars at 88 Smithing or simply buying it off the Grand Exchange for a few thousand coins.
Equipment bonuses
The adamant platebody is built for defence, not offence. It offers +65 stab, +63 slash and +55 crush defence plus +63 ranged defence, the best of any free-to-play body short of the rune platebody.

Other bonuses
The trade-off is the usual platebody downside: a -30 Magic attack and -15 Ranged attack penalty, so it is worn only for melee. Wearing it needs just 30 Defence, making it an early F2P defensive staple.

How to get the adamant platebody
There are two main ways to get an adamant platebody. The simplest is to buy it on the Grand Exchange — it is tradeable and cheap, with a buy limit of 125 every 4 hours.
You can also smith one yourself. With 88 Smithing, use 5 adamantite bars on an anvil while carrying a hammer to forge it, earning 312.5 Smithing experience per body. Because its high-alchemy value sits close to the cost of the bars, smithing-and-alching adamant platebodies is a classic Smithing-training method. It also appears as a reward item for a medium emote Treasure Trail clue, and smithing one is a requirement for the elite Lumbridge & Draynor Diary. Browse more options on the melee gear page or the full item database.
Is the adamant platebody worth it?
For a low-level free-to-play account, yes. At only 30 Defence it is one of the strongest body slots you can wear, beaten in F2P only by the rune platebody. Its defensive numbers comfortably outclass the adamant chainbody and the mithril platebody.
That said, it is purely a stepping stone. Members and higher-level accounts quickly move past it to platebodies like the fighter torso and end-game bodies such as the Bandos chestplate. If you are levelling Smithing, the adamant platebody is more valuable as training fodder than gear — see the Smithing guide for the full route.
