Amulet of the damned

“Heirloom of an ancient and extinct family of Morytania.”

The Amulet of the Damned is an amulet that boosts Barrows armour sets. On its own it has the same bonuses as an amulet of glory, but worn with a full Barrows set it adds a second effect on top of the set's normal one. It comes from shade chests in the Shade Catacombs under Mort'ton, and it degrades like Barrows armour, turning to dust when it runs out.

Equipment bonuses

The bonuses match an amulet of glory: +10 to every attack style, +3 to every defence, +6 strength and +3 prayer. With a full Verac's set the prayer bonus goes up by another 7.

How to get the Amulet of the Damned

The amulet is loot from the Shades of Mort'ton minigame.

Ways to obtain it
Shade Catacombs chests — silver and gold shade chests can contain it. To enter the catacombs you need the Shades of Mort'ton quest and at least a bronze shade key, which you get by cremating shade remains in Mort'ton.
Grand Exchange — an unused amulet is tradeable, and that is the form priced on this page. Once you wear it in combat it becomes untradeable.

Amulet of the Damned set effects

The bonus only applies when you wear a full Barrows set. It comes on top of the set's own effect.

  • Dharok's — 25% chance to reflect 15% of the damage you take. It stacks with Vengeance and a ring of recoil.
  • Verac's — +7 extra prayer bonus, on top of the amulet's +3.
  • Torag's — your Defence level is quietly raised by 1% for each Hitpoint you are missing.
  • Guthan's — healing can take you up to 10 Hitpoints above your base level.
  • Karil's — 25% chance to hit twice. The second hit deals half the damage of the first.
  • Ahrim's — Ahrim's staff can autocast Ancient Magicks, and combat spells have a 25% chance to deal 30% more damage. Since October 2024 this also works with manual casting.

You get no experience for Karil's second hit or for Dharok's reflected damage.

Degradation and death

The amulet degrades at the same rate as Barrows armour. When fully used it turns to dust. If you own more than one, you can combine their charges.

Be careful on death. A used amulet turns to dust if you die with it, even in a safe area, so it cannot be recovered. An unused (full) amulet drops to the floor or goes to item retrieval like other items.

If you are not wearing a full Barrows set, the amulet only gives the same stats as a glory, so a regular Amulet of glory or a better neck slot item is the sensible choice. Use gear compare to check it against your other options.

Amulet of the damned FAQ

How do you get the Amulet of the Damned?
From silver and gold shade chests in the Shade Catacombs under Mort'ton. An unused one can also be bought on the Grand Exchange.
What does the Amulet of the Damned do?
It adds an extra effect to a full Barrows set: reflected damage for Dharok's, extra prayer for Verac's, a Defence boost for Torag's, overhealing for Guthan's, a double hit for Karil's, and Ancient autocasting plus bonus damage for Ahrim's.
Does the Amulet of the Damned work without full Barrows?
No. The set effects need a full set of one brother's equipment. Without it the amulet only gives its stat bonuses, which are the same as an amulet of glory.
Does the Amulet of the Damned degrade?
Yes, at the same rate as Barrows armour. When it is fully used it turns to dust. You can combine charges from several amulets.
Do you lose the Amulet of the Damned on death?
A used amulet turns to dust when you die with it, even in a safe area. An unused one drops like a normal item.
Is the Amulet of the Damned tradeable?
Only while it is unused. Once it starts to degrade it becomes untradeable.
Does the Ahrim's effect work with manual casting?
Yes. Since the 23 October 2024 update the Ahrim's effect works with manual casting as well as autocasting.
