Brimstone ring

“A well balanced ring that aids in piercing magic defence.”

The brimstone ring is a members' ring with no level requirement to wear, created by combining three untradeable Slayer drops — the hydra's eye, fang, and heart — from the Alchemical Hydra. It carries the combined offensive and defensive stats of six imbued-tier rings (archers, berserker, warrior, seers, treasonous, and tyrannical) and adds a magic-defence-piercing passive: a 25% chance to ignore 10% of your target's magic defence per cast. On the Grand Exchange it trades for roughly 2.7M coins.

Equipment bonuses

The brimstone ring gives a flat, balanced spread across every combat style: +6 Magic attack and +6 Magic defence, plus +4 to every other attack, defence, and +4 melee Strength bonus. There is no level requirement to equip it.

Those numbers match the pooled stats of the six imbuable Dagannoth Kings and Wilderness rings, but the brimstone ring cannot itself be imbued — its edge is breadth across styles plus the Magic passive, not raw peak bonuses in any one slot.

How to get the brimstone ring

The brimstone ring is not a direct drop — it is created by combining three untradeable components: the hydra's eye, hydra's fang, and hydra's heart. All three are obtained as drops from the Alchemical Hydra, the Slayer boss in the Karuulm Slayer Dungeon beneath Mount Karuulm.

  • You cannot receive a duplicate of any piece until you have obtained each of the other two, so the three components drop in a guaranteed rotation rather than stacking.
  • Once you hold all three, combine them to forge the ring — there is no Crafting level or other requirement to assemble it.

The assembled ring is tradeable, so if you would rather skip the Hydra grind you can buy a finished one straight off the Grand Exchange for around 2.7M coins. The individual components are untradeable and must be earned in-game.

The magic-defence-piercing passive

The brimstone ring's signature feature is its passive effect on Magic attacks. Each time you attack with a spell or magical attack — powered staves included — there is a 25% chance the target's magic defensive roll is reduced by 10% for that attack, improving your accuracy. When it triggers you see the red game message "Your attack ignored 10% of your opponent's magic defence."

Two limits matter:

  • The reduction applies only to the single intended target you select. It does not affect the extra targets hit when barraging or multi-hitting a group.
  • It affects the defensive roll for that one attack — it does not permanently lower the target's stats and does not stack.

That passive is what lifts the ring's Magic performance to rival the seers ring (i), making it a strong all-round choice when you are switching between styles mid-fight.

Is the brimstone ring worth it?

The brimstone ring's appeal is versatility. Instead of carrying separate archers, berserker, warrior, seers, treasonous, and tyrannical rings and swapping per style, you wear one ring that delivers the combined stats of all six, plus a Magic passive on top. For hybrid bossing and content where you cannot predict which style you will lean on, that single-slot coverage is hard to beat.

The trade-off is that it cannot be imbued. A fully imbued style-specific ring will out-stat the brimstone ring in its own niche, so a dedicated single-style setup can still want the imbued ring for that style. The brimstone ring wins on breadth and convenience, not on peak bonus in any one category.

For wider loadout planning, pair this with the boss gear finder and the magic gear, melee gear, and ranged gear pages to see where the ring fits each style.

Brimstone ring FAQ

What level do you need to wear the brimstone ring?

None. The brimstone ring has no Slayer, combat, or skill requirement to equip — anyone who owns it can wear it. The only barrier is obtaining its three components from the Alchemical Hydra.

How do you get the brimstone ring?

You create it by combining three untradeable drops — the hydra's eye, fang, and heart — all obtained from the Alchemical Hydra Slayer boss. You cannot get a duplicate of any piece until you have all three. Alternatively, buy a finished ring on the Grand Exchange, since the assembled ring is tradeable.

What is the brimstone ring's passive effect?

On every spell or magical attack (including powered staves), there is a 25% chance to reduce the target's magic defensive roll by 10% for that attack, shown by the red message "Your attack ignored 10% of your opponent's magic defence." It only affects your single intended target, not extra targets hit by barrage-style spells.

Can the brimstone ring be imbued?

No. Although it carries the combined stats of six imbuable rings, the brimstone ring itself cannot be imbued. Its strength is broad coverage across all styles plus the Magic passive, rather than a higher peak bonus in any single style.

Is the brimstone ring good?

Yes, as an all-round ring. It bundles the stats of the archers, berserker, warrior, seers, treasonous, and tyrannical rings into one slot, so it is excellent for hybrid and switch-heavy combat. Its Magic passive lifts its casting performance to rival the seers ring (i). A dedicated single-style imbued ring can still edge it out within that one style.

How much is the brimstone ring worth?

It trades for roughly 2.7M coins on the Grand Exchange, with a buy limit of 8 every 4 hours. Check the live chart on this page or the GE price tracker for the current price.

Where do the hydra's eye, fang, and heart come from?

All three components drop from the Alchemical Hydra, the Slayer boss in the Karuulm Slayer Dungeon. They are untradeable, so you must earn each one yourself; once you hold all three you combine them into the ring. See the Slayer guide for getting to the Hydra.

Does the brimstone ring's passive work on multiple targets?

No. The 10% magic-defence reduction applies only to the single intended target you attack. When you barrage or hit several enemies at once, the extra targets are unaffected — only your selected target can have its defensive roll reduced.

Update history

17 January 2019

A notification regarding the brimstone ring's effect in PvP was corrected.

13 January 2019

Hotfix: on release the ring reduced the opponent's Magic level instead of ignoring its magic defence, which could be stacked to render NPCs' magical attacks ineffective. This was fixed roughly three days after release.
