Dragon claws

“A set of fighting claws.”

Dragon claws are a two-handed melee weapon obtained as a rare reward from the Chambers of Xeric, requiring 60 Attack to wield. They swing on a 4-tick (2.4s) claw style with +57 slash and +56 strength, but their fame is the Slice and Dice special attack — four chained hits that can spike huge burst damage, making them a staple PKing finisher and a popular spec weapon at bosses. The only source is the raid's Ancient chest, and they currently trade for roughly 41M.

They sit behind only 60 Attack as a requirement, so the offensive numbers are modest for the price — you buy claws for the special attack, not the passive stats.

How to get Dragon claws

Dragon claws are a rare reward from the Chambers of Xeric raid. They drop from the Ancient chest on the raid's unique reward table at a rarity of 3/69 (about 1/23, or 4.35%) once a unique is rolled — that unique chance itself scales with the points your team earns in the raid.

Like all dragon equipment, the claws cannot be made with the Smithing skill, so the raid is the only way to obtain them. Because they are fully tradeable, most players simply buy them off the Grand Exchange rather than grinding the drop, with a buy limit of 8 every 4 hours.

Slice and Dice special attack

The Dragon claws' special attack, Slice and Dice, drains 50% of the special attack bar and strikes the target four times in succession. The damage is rolled against the opponent's slash defence.

The mechanic chains the hits: each of the four strikes uses your normal attack accuracy until one lands, and once any strike hits, all remaining strikes also hit. The damage then splits across the four hitsplats roughly as a halving sequence:

  • First hit lands ("4-2-1-1"): the first hit rolls up to 1 below your ordinary max, the second is half of the first, the third half of the second, and the fourth is 1 more than the third — e.g. 35–17–8–9.
  • First hit misses ("0-4-2-2"): the second hit becomes the big one and the rest follow the halving pattern — e.g. 0–30–15–16.
  • First two miss ("0-0-3-3"): the third hit carries the damage — e.g. 0–0–22–23.
  • First three miss ("0-0-0-5"): the final hit can land between 1/4 and 5/4 of your normal max — e.g. 0–0–0–46.
  • All miss ("0-0-0-0"): there's still a ~2/3 chance of chipping 2 damage across the hitsplats.

Wearing maximum strength gear on a Slayer task with a slayer helmet or black mask, the highest possible sequence is 50–25–12–13, totalling 100. Against other players the cap is 45-22-11-12, totalling 90.

Are Dragon claws worth it?

Dragon claws earn their price almost entirely through the special attack's reliability rather than raw stats. Because every one of the four strikes rolls accuracy and a hit cascades into guaranteed follow-up hits, the spec is far more consistent than the dragon dagger's spec, which rolls its hits independently and is less accurate — even though the dagger's theoretical max (up to 112 against monsters, 100 against players) is higher.

This consistency is why claws are a go-to PKing finisher and a popular opening spec at many bosses. For players whose main goal is bossing damage, a Twisted bow or other style-specific weapon will usually out-DPS them over a full trip, but few melee weapons match claws for burst on demand. Use the Boss Gear Finder to see where claws fit a given fight.

Dragon claws FAQ

What level do you need to wield Dragon claws?

You need 60 Attack to equip Dragon claws. There is no Strength or other requirement.

How do you get Dragon claws?

They are a rare reward from the Chambers of Xeric raid, dropping from the Ancient chest's unique table at a rarity of 3/69 (about 1/23) once you roll a unique. They cannot be made with Smithing, but they are tradeable, so most players buy them off the Grand Exchange.

What is the Dragon claws special attack?

It's called Slice and Dice. It uses 50% of the special attack bar and hits the target four times in a row, rolling against the opponent's slash defence. The four hits cascade off each other, so once one lands the rest are guaranteed, which makes it a very consistent burst-damage finisher.

What is the highest hit with Dragon claws?

On a Slayer task with maximum strength gear and a slayer helmet or black mask, the highest possible sequence is 50–25–12–13, totalling 100. Against other players the cap is 45-22-11-12, totalling 90.

Are Dragon claws better than a Dragon dagger?

For most uses, yes. The dragon dagger can hit higher in theory (up to 112 against monsters), but its special rolls its two hits independently and is less accurate, so high hits are less consistent. Dragon claws cascade their four hits off a single accuracy check, making the spec far more reliable.

How much are Dragon claws worth?

Dragon claws trade for roughly 41M coins on the Grand Exchange, though the price moves with raid supply and demand. Check the live GE price tracker above for the current value.

Can you make Dragon claws with Smithing?

No. Like all dragon equipment, Dragon claws cannot be smithed from raw materials. The only in-game source is the Chambers of Xeric raid.

What attack speed do Dragon claws have?

Dragon claws attack on a 4-tick speed (2.4 seconds) per swing, the standard speed for the claw combat style.
