Torag the Corrupted Best in Slot Gear & Strategy Guide

Torag the Corrupted resides in his own crypt to the south-west of the Barrows area. He is a members-only monster, and he is aggressive once you enter his chamber. There is no quest stated on his page as a hard gate to reach him.

Torag can also appear as a Slayer assignment. He is assigned by Konar quo Maten, Nieve, and Duradel, and killing him grants 112.5 Slayer experience. If he is killed on a Slayer task given specifically by Konar quo Maten, he has a chance to drop a Brimstone key as a tertiary reward.

Torag uses melee and is weak to Magic, so the entire fight is built around a magic attack. On top of his general magic weakness, he has a 50% elemental weakness to wind (Air) spells, added in the Project Rebalance combat changes, which makes air-based spells particularly strong against him. He was made into a spectral creature in the 6 January 2021 update.

The meta style here is pure magic damage from range. He is commonly defeated using a trident of the swamp or trident of the seas, Iban Blast, or Magic Dart. Players can also use Entangle or Ice spells to bind him and keep attacking from a distance. Because Torag wields hammers and attacks with the Crush style, any defensive pieces you bring should favour crush defence. Torag has a single attack and a passive set effect.

Crush attack (hammers). Torag attacks with hammers using the Crush style at an attack speed of 5. His maximum hit is 23. Because of this, armour that is defensive against crush is advised. Following a 6 August 2025 update, Torag now strikes twice with his hammers, matching their dual-hit behaviour when wielded by players. Despite his inaccuracy, he can still hit up to 23, so the use of Protect from Melee is advised for players with low Defence.

Corruption (set effect). Torag's set effect is Corruption, which gives him a 25% chance per successful hit to lower the player's run energy by 20% of the current amount. For example, having 50% energy would result in 10% energy being drained, leaving you with 40%. Importantly, Protect from Melee does not prevent the effect from activating. The page notes this effect does not pose a notable threat in combat.

The plan is simple: stand off Torag and attack with magic. Open with a trident of the swamp / seas, Iban Blast, or Magic Dart, leaning on his magic weakness (and the extra 50% weakness to wind spells if you use air-based spells). If you want extra safety, use Entangle or Ice spells to bind him in place and keep attacking from a distance.

If your Defence is low and you are taking hits, switch on Protect from Melee, which the page advises for players with low Defence. Do not expect Protect from Melee to stop the Corruption energy drain — it will still trigger — but since that effect is not a notable threat, it does not change the fight. Because Torag is inaccurate and his set effect is harmless, he is typically the quickest and lowest-risk of the brothers to clear.

On supplies, the page does not prescribe a fixed inventory, but the mechanics point the way: bring enough Prayer to sustain Protect from Melee if your Defence is low, and be aware that the Corruption effect can repeatedly chip away at your run energy. Since the energy drain takes a percentage of your current amount rather than a flat value, it cannot fully empty your energy in one hit, which is part of why it is considered a non-threat. Bind-and-range tactics with Entangle or Ice spells let you avoid most of his hits entirely.

Torag himself is part of the wider Barrows reward system rather than a boss with a large unique drop table. His named gear — Torag's equipment, the corrupted hammer-based melee set tied to his Corruption effect — is associated with the Barrows brothers as set pieces, not enumerated here as direct kill drops.

The one drop listed on his page is the Brimstone key, a tertiary drop that is only awarded if Torag is killed on a Slayer task given by Konar quo Maten.

• Meleeing him. Torag uses melee equipment and is vulnerable to Magic — fighting him with melee throws away his biggest weakness. Use magic.
• Ignoring his wind weakness. He has a 50% elemental weakness to wind (Air) spells on top of his general magic weakness, so air-based spells are especially effective.
• Trusting Protect from Melee to stop Corruption. Protect from Melee reduces his crush damage but does not prevent his energy-draining set effect from activating.
• Skipping the Konar condition for the Brimstone key. The Brimstone key only drops when he is killed on a Slayer task assigned by Konar quo Maten.
