Sulphur blades

“Are these explosive?”

The Sulphur blades are a two-handed slash weapon needing 55 Attack, attacking once every 4 ticks (2.4s). They hit two independently rolled hitsplats per attack (combined max hit split in half), with +72 slash and +64 strength. A rare 1/450 drop from Sulphur Nagua in Neypotzli, they trade as a low-cost mid-game weapon.

Equipment bonuses

Sulphur blades offer +72 slash attack and +64 melee strength, with a small +11 stab bonus, swinging on a 4-tick (2.4-second) slash cycle.

Their numbers sit just behind a dragon scimitar on single-hit accuracy, but the defining feature is the two-hitsplat attack rather than any one bonus, all at a 55 Attack requirement.

How to get the Sulphur blades

The Sulphur blades are obtained only as a rare drop from Sulphur Nagua, found in the Neypotzli cave area added with Varlamore: Part One. They drop at a rate of 1/450 on the monster's pre-roll table, so they are not a buyable shop or reward item — the only ways to own a pair are to farm the drop yourself or buy one off the Grand Exchange.

Because they are tradeable, most players simply purchase them rather than grind Sulphur Nagua. They are an early entry on the melee gear ladder for accounts that have just hit the 55 Attack requirement.

How the two-hit attack works

Like their crush and stab counterparts (the glacial temotli and earthbound tecpatl), the Sulphur blades perform two independently rolled hits per attack. The game first works out your combined max hit as normal, then divides it in two — if that number is odd, one hitsplat rounds up and the other rounds down (for example a combined max of 45 becomes 22 and 23).

Splitting damage into two hitsplats makes them especially strong against Sulphur Nagua themselves, which take an extra 4 minimum damage on each hitsplat, so the blades shine as a combat-training weapon in Neypotzli where Moonlight potions are easy to brew for prayer and melee boosts.

Are the Sulphur blades worth it?

Statistically the Sulphur blades are nearly identical to a dragon scimitar, trading 2 strength bonus for 5 more slash accuracy. The catch is that they are a two-handed weapon, so they cannot pair with a defender — and a dragon scimitar plus a defender is considerably stronger overall for general slash training and PvM.

Where they earn their place is the niche they were built for: the two-hitsplat mechanic against Sulphur Nagua, and as a cheap, low-requirement 2h slasher. For mainstream melee progression most players keep using a scimitar-and-defender setup, so check the boss gear finder for the recommended weapon before spending here. Their current cost is a low one — see the live price and history chart above for today's figure.

Sulphur blades FAQ

What level do you need for Sulphur blades?

You need 55 Attack to wield the Sulphur blades. There are no other skill requirements.

How do you get the Sulphur blades?

They are a rare 1/450 drop from Sulphur Nagua in the Neypotzli cave (Varlamore: Part One). Since they are tradeable, you can also just buy a pair on the Grand Exchange.

What is the special attack of the Sulphur blades?

The Sulphur blades have no special attack. Their signature mechanic instead is that every attack deals two independently rolled hitsplats — the combined max hit is calculated as normal, then split in half (an odd total rounds one hit up and the other down).

Are Sulphur blades better than a dragon scimitar?

Their stats are nearly identical — the blades trade 2 strength for 5 more slash accuracy. But they are two-handed, so a dragon scimitar paired with a defender is considerably stronger for general use. The blades mainly win in their own niche against Sulphur Nagua.

How fast do the Sulphur blades attack?

They attack once every 4 ticks, which is 2.4 seconds per swing — the same speed as most scimitars and longswords.

How much are Sulphur blades worth?

They are a relatively cheap mid-game weapon. Prices move with the Grand Exchange, so check the live price and history chart above for the current value rather than relying on a fixed figure.
