Best in slot gear for Sarachnis (current meta)
This setup is computed live from the same wiki-sourced combat stats and monster data that power our OSRS DPS calculator — so it tracks the current meta instead of going stale. Pick your combat style above and it ranks every viable weapon and armour piece by damage per second against Sarachnis, factoring in the boss's defences, size and any elemental weakness.
Not at maxed stats? Lower any level on the left and the recommendation re-ranks instantly — requirement-gated gear drops out automatically. For the full ranked list per slot, open the BiS calculator; to pit two specific items against each other, use Gear Compare.
Sarachnis Strategy Guide
Sarachnis Guide
Sarachnis, the mother of the temple spiders, is a mid-level boss found in the Forthos Dungeon, in a former burial tomb south of the Spider Den. She sits at combat level 318 with 400 Hitpoints, and she is aggressive, so she attacks on sight once you reach her tomb.
She is popular because she rewards consistent crush DPS rather than mechanical perfection: she attacks with Melee when you stand next to her and Ranged when you are out of melee range, both of which can hit up to 31 if left unprotected. Killing her is fast, and she has a notably high rate of elite clue scrolls "for the relative time to defeat her," which is a big part of her appeal alongside her unique drops.
Sarachnis can be killed as part of a spider Slayer task, and she is assignable by Turael, Spria, Konar, Nieve, and Duradel. Because she is weak to crush and stacks high Magic and Ranged defence, she is a near-pure melee crush target. Plug your account into our Boss Gear Finder above to see exactly what crush setup you can field right now.
Requirements & where to fight
Sarachnis lives in the Forthos Dungeon, in the burial tomb in the southern-most part of the dungeon. You reach it via the entrance across the river to the east of the Forthos Ruin. The fight area is a multicombat area rather than a forced instance, though you can pay for a private instance if you prefer.
There is no quest requirement to fight her. The main practical entry gate is access: you need a slash weapon or a knife to cut through the webs that block the path to her, unless you are wearing Aranea boots. The same webs can be peeked through to see how many players are already inside the tomb, and the final thick webs into the tomb do not require a slash weapon or knife.
The strategy page suggests the following stat floor before you take her on: 65+ Hitpoints, Strength, Attack, and Defence, 60+ Magic (for Magic defensive bonuses against the magic spawn), 70+ Ranged (for the Magic defence on Ranged-style armour), and 43+ Prayer for protection prayers, with 70 Prayer recommended so you can run Piety. Attack 65+ is specifically called out as needed to equip weapons like the Sarachnis cudgel. If you want to push these underlying levels, our Strength guide and Prayer guide cover the fastest training routes.
If you want a private fight, you can pay 25,000 coins to fight Sarachnis in an instanced version of her arena via the thick web opening to her lair. This is reduced to 12,500 coins after claiming the rewards from the hard tier of Combat Achievements, and the payment is taken from your bank. The instance lasts until you leave or log out.
Getting there
The three easiest ways to reach the Forthos Dungeon, per the strategy page, are:
- Xeric's talisman — teleporting to Xeric's Glade brings you just east of the eastern dungeon entrance.
- Kharedst's memoirs / Book of the dead — the "Lunch by the lancalliums" teleport drops you by the River Hos just north-east of the dungeon entrances.
- Spirit tree — a player-grown spirit tree just south of the dungeon entrance.
House tablets or a Ring of dueling are also worth carrying for a one-click teleport that gives stat restoration and bank access between trips.
Recommended stats & gear
The single most important fact for gearing: Sarachnis is weak to crush, and has high Magic and Ranged defence. That makes melee crush the most viable killing method. The strategy page is blunt about it — bring high Strength-bonus equipment and a crush weapon that can attack fast, naming an abyssal bludgeon as the kind of fast crush weapon you want.
The second priority is Magic defence. Two Magic-using spawns appear during the fight, so the meta deliberately favours armour with decent Magic defensive bonuses over pure max-DPS pieces. In practice that means a crush weapon set to crush, gloves and boots with strength, and a body/legs choice that does not leave you soft to the magic spawn.
Rather than hand you an exact best-in-slot list (which depends entirely on your bank and levels), point your account at our Boss Gear Finder above — it resolves the right crush loadout for what you actually own. For the underlying logic of building a hard-hitting melee setup, our melee gear guide walks through the families that matter: a fast crush mainhand, max Strength bonus, and a defender or equivalent off-hand. Strength bonus does the heavy lifting on her, so see the Strength guide if your level is holding your damage back.
One nuance worth getting right: Sarachnis also has a 40% elemental weakness to fire spells. That does not mean you should bring Magic. High-end Magic (Tumeken's shadow) is uniquely accurate and can work, but the strategy page is explicit that its poor special-attack options and lower melee defence mean melee setups generally perform better overall. Treat fire-spell Magic as an alternative method for shadow owners, not the meta — if you go that route, our magic gear guide covers it.
Inventory & supplies
A clean Sarachnis trip carries:
- A special-attack weapon (the strategy page uses burning claws at lower levels and dragon claws at higher levels as examples).
- 1–2 Super combat potions (or Divine super combat potions at higher levels).
- 4–6 Prayer potions or super restores at lower levels, scaling up to 6–12 for longer high-level trips.
- A slash weapon to cut through the webs on the way in, such as a Wilderness sword — unless you are wearing Aranea boots, in which case you do not need one.
- A teleport to reach the Forthos Dungeon, such as a Xeric's talisman, House tablets, or the Book of the dead.
- The rest of your inventory in food — the strategy page lists cooked karambwans or better at lower levels, and sharks or higher-tier food at higher levels.
Optional extras the strategy page recommends: a Saturated heart for Magic defence; a Ring of stone or other one-click transformation ring to unfreeze from her web; a Book of the dead plus a rune pouch for resurrection spells and thralls on the Arceuus spellbook; and Death and Soul runes for Death Charge to fuel more special attacks. Note that players using Aranea boots do not need a slash weapon for the webs and do not benefit from a transformation ring.
Fight mechanics
Sarachnis attacks every 4 ticks. Her melee attack smashes you with her legs, and her ranged attack launches barbed projectiles. On top of those, she has three things you must understand:
Melee and Ranged switching. She attacks with Melee when you are adjacent and Ranged when you are out of melee range. Both are accurate and can hit up to 31, so you must pray correctly — Protect from Melee when next to her, Protect from Missiles when at range. Her melee range is described as deceptively large, so do not assume you are safe just because you have stepped back a tile. As a positioning trick, all tiles directly adjacent to walls are out of her melee range; standing on one of those and praying Protect from Missiles nullifies all of her damage (but not the spawns'). Mastering these switches is exactly what our Prayer guide drills.
Healing strike. Her standard attacks heal her on any successful hit, shown by a magenta hitsplat. She heals 5 health for every successful melee hit and 10 health for every successful ranged hit, regardless of how much damage she actually dealt — including zeros. That is the real reason to pray correctly: a hit that lands not only hurts you, it tops her back up and extends the kill.
Sticky web. Every four standard attacks she screeches "Hsss!" and shoots a sticky web that binds you for 6 ticks (3.6 seconds), dealing no damage, then sprints a short distance to a new spot. The bind can be completely negated by wearing Aranea boots, or partially mitigated by equipping a transformation ring (such as the Ring of stone) immediately after the web lands under you — the Ring of nature and Ring of coins work equally well, while the Easter ring is a tick too slow to dodge the ranged attack but better than nothing. Because she sprints two tiles per tick when she moves, her model is not always where she actually is, which makes hitting her mid-move inconsistent.
Spawns. When Sarachnis reaches 66% and 33% health, she summons two Spawns of Sarachnis per player: a level 68 Magic user with a max hit of 11, and a level 107 Melee user with a max hit of 13. Both have 30 health. Typically you tank the melee spawn (since you are already praying Protect from Melee) and kill the magic spawn, while keeping your prayer focused on Sarachnis' own attacks. When Sarachnis dies, any remaining spawns die off with her.
Strategy & kill rotation
The core loop is simple once you internalise it: stay adjacent to her praying Protect from Melee, attack with a fast crush weapon, and only break that rhythm for her web and her spawns.
Handling the web is the whole skill ceiling. The cleanest approach is to wear Aranea boots, which always free you from the web instantly. This speeds up and simplifies the fight and removes the need to change prayer at all. If you do not own them, equip a transformation ring such as the Ring of stone the moment the web appears under you — this frees you, lets you attack more frequently, and lets you avoid her ranged attack entirely, skipping prayer switches. If you can use neither, the rule is to eat food only while you are bound by the web, so you never lose attack ticks to eating.
When you can't escape the web in time and she steps out of melee range, switch to Protect from Missiles to block her ranged attack, then close back to melee range and switch back to Protect from Melee. Done perfectly, you take no damage from her attacks at all.
At the spawn phases (66% and 33%), keep praying for Sarachnis' attacks — her hits are the bigger threat. Tank the melee spawn, kill the magic spawn, and keep DPSing the boss. The strategy page's specific call here is to pray Protect from Missiles while you do this, because Sarachnis' own ranged attack is more dangerous than the spawns' hits. Lower-levelled players in particular should prioritise killing the blue magic spawn; the orange melee spawn can be tanked if your defensive bonuses are high enough, and it doesn't strictly need to die.
When she dies, she respawns in 17 ticks (10.2 seconds) in a private instance (the public respawn behaves the same after recent timer reductions). Bank or restore with House tablets between trips, re-slash the webs on the way back in, and repeat.
Notable drops
Her headline unique is the Sarachnis cudgel, a non-degradeable crush weapon, which drops at a rate of 1/384. It is one of the better-value crush weapons you can farm directly from the boss that supplies it.
Her other signature drops are the pristine spider silk — used to upgrade the herb sack into the Silklined herb sack — and her famously high rate of elite clue scrolls "for the relative time to defeat her," which is a major reason clue hunters farm her. She also drops the giant egg sac, one of the few consistent non-Wilderness sources of red spiders' eggs.
For collectors, she has two prized tertiary drops: the Jar of eyes at 1/2000, and her pet, Sraracha, at 1/3000. The full drop table, with every rate, is shown above this guide — and you can track the live value of any of these on our GE price tracker.
Common mistakes
- Praying the wrong protection prayer. Her melee and ranged attacks both hit up to 31 unprotected, and any hit that lands also heals her (5 on melee, 10 on ranged). A sloppy prayer switch costs you both your own HP and extra time on the kill.
- Standing one tile too far. Her melee range is deceptively large. Players who think they have stepped to safety still eat melee hits — either commit to adjacency with Protect from Melee, or get fully out of range and pray Missiles.
- Eating at the wrong time. If you are not using Aranea boots or a transformation ring, eat only while you are bound by her web. Eating during normal attack windows throws away DPS you didn't need to lose.
- Forgetting the webs into the tomb. Without a slash weapon, knife, or Aranea boots, you cannot reach her. Bring one or you'll be stuck at the webs.
- Bringing a Magic setup expecting it to beat melee. Despite her 40% fire weakness, the strategy page is explicit that melee crush generally outperforms even a Tumeken's shadow setup here. Don't gear Magic unless you specifically own the high-end shadow kit and accept it's the weaker method.
- Ignoring Magic defence. Two magic-using spawns appear at 66% and 33%. A setup with no Magic defence takes avoidable chip damage from them throughout the fight.

Sarachnis Guide — FAQ
What is Sarachnis weak to?
Sarachnis is weak to crush, and she has high Magic and Ranged defence, so melee crush is the most viable way to kill her. She also has a 40% elemental weakness to fire spells, but the strategy page notes melee setups generally perform better overall than even a Tumeken's shadow Magic setup.
What prayers do I use against Sarachnis?
Use Protect from Melee when you are next to her and Protect from Missiles when she is out of melee range and using her ranged attack. Both of her attacks can hit up to 31 if unprotected, and a successful hit also heals her, so correct prayer is the most important part of the fight. See our Prayer guide for switching practice.
How do I deal with her web attack?
Every four attacks she binds you with a sticky web for 6 ticks (3.6 seconds). The cleanest fix is Aranea boots, which negate the web entirely and remove the need to switch prayers. Alternatively, equip a transformation ring such as the Ring of stone the instant the web lands to free yourself. If you can do neither, only eat food while you are bound.
What are the spawns, and do I have to kill them?
At 66% and 33% health she summons two Spawns of Sarachnis per player: a level 68 Magic user (max hit 11) and a level 107 Melee user (max hit 13), each with 30 health. Typically you tank the melee spawn and kill the magic one, while keeping your prayer on Sarachnis herself. All spawns die automatically when she does.
What requirements do I need to fight Sarachnis?
There is no quest requirement. The strategy page suggests roughly 65+ Hitpoints, Strength, Attack, and Defence, 60+ Magic and 70+ Ranged for defensive bonuses, and 43+ Prayer (70 recommended for Piety). You also need a slash weapon, knife, or Aranea boots to cut through the webs blocking her tomb.
What are her best drops?
Her marquee unique is the Sarachnis cudgel (1/384), a non-degradeable crush weapon. She is also farmed for pristine spider silk, a high rate of elite clue scrolls, and her collector drops — the Jar of eyes (1/2000) and her pet Sraracha (1/3000). The full drop table with rates is shown above this guide.
