Justiciar faceguard

“A helm that once belonged to a Justiciar, a loyal zealot of Saradomin.”

The Justiciar faceguard is a defence helm from the Theatre of Blood. It asks for 75 Defence, has no strength bonus, and carries a high defence line: +60 stab, +63 slash, +59 crush and +67 ranged. The set effect needs all three pieces and reduces the damage you take outside PvP.

Equipment bonuses

Everything on this helm is about defence. The four defence numbers that matter are +60 stab, +63 slash, +59 crush and +67 ranged, and it adds +2 Prayer. The cost is a −6 magic defence, a −6 magic attack and a −2 ranged attack, and there is no strength or damage bonus.

How to get the Justiciar faceguard

The faceguard only enters the game as a drop from one raid, so the Grand Exchange is the other route.

Ways to obtain it
Theatre of Blood — a rare unique drop from the Monumental chest, at 2/19 in normal mode and 2/18 in hard mode once a unique has been rolled.
Grand Exchange — tradeable, with a buy limit of 8 every 4 hours.

Where the Justiciar faceguard is used

The faceguard is a head-slot tank piece. It is used for General Graardor, K'ril Tsutsaroth, Vorkath, the Inferno, Vardorvis and Fossil Island wyverns.

Worn alone it is an ordinary defence helm. Worn with the Justiciar chestguard and legguards it activates the set effect, which reduces all combat damage outside PvP. The reduction scales with your defence bonus for the attack style being used against you.

The set has heavy trade-offs: magic and ranged attack are penalised and magic defence is negative. It also gives no strength bonus, so it is not a damage set.

Justiciar faceguard compared with the Torva full helm

The comparison is damage against safety. The Torva full helm gives +8 strength, and it needs 80 Defence. The faceguard needs only 75 Defence and gives +67 ranged defence against the Torva helm's +57, plus +2 Prayer against +1.

The faceguard also adds to the set effect, which the Torva helm cannot do. If you do not plan to wear the other two Justiciar pieces, the effect never turns on and the Torva helm gives more damage for a melee setup. If you do, the faceguard is the piece that finishes the set.

Justiciar faceguard FAQ

What level do you need for the Justiciar faceguard?
75 Defence. There is no other skill or quest requirement.
How do you get the Justiciar faceguard?
It is a rare unique drop from the Theatre of Blood, taken from the Monumental chest after the final fight of the raid. You can also buy it on the Grand Exchange, where the buy limit is 8 every 4 hours.
What are the drop rates for the Justiciar faceguard?
The share is 2/19 in normal mode and 2/18 in hard mode. Those fractions apply only after the raid has already rolled a unique item. They are not the chance of getting any unique in the first place.
What does the Justiciar set effect do?
With the faceguard, chestguard and legguards all worn, each hit you take outside PvP is reduced by your defence bonus for that attack style divided by 3000. As an example, a +450 crush defence bonus cuts a crush hit by 15%. It always reduces damage by at least 1, and a negative defence never makes a hit larger.
Does the Justiciar faceguard stack with an Elysian spirit shield?
Yes. The set effect stacks additively with the passive effect of the Elysian spirit shield.
Justiciar faceguard or Torva full helm?
The Torva full helm gives +8 strength and needs 80 Defence. The faceguard gives no strength but more ranged defence (+67 against +57) and a higher Prayer bonus, and it counts toward the Justiciar set effect. Pick the Torva helm to hit harder and the faceguard to take less.
Does the Justiciar faceguard count as a god item in the God Wars Dungeon?
Yes. It counts as a Saradomin item there.
