Grand Exchange price history
Black chinchompas are a stackable, thrown Ranged weapon that explodes on impact and hits several targets at once. You need 65 Ranged to use them. They have more ranged attack and ranged strength than red chinchompas, with +80 ranged attack and +30 ranged strength, and they are used to train Ranged and Hitpoints fast on groups of monsters standing close together. They are used up as you throw them.
Equipment bonuses
A black chinchompa has +80 ranged attack and +30 ranged strength and no other bonuses. The strength figure is double the red chinchompa's +15, and the attack figure is 10 higher than its +70. It attacks on a 4-tick base speed.
Requires 65 Ranged to wield · weapon slot · members · stackable ammo-weapon with attack range 9. Its standout numbers are +80 ranged attack and +30 ranged strength, shown above.
How to get Black chinchompas
You can catch them yourself or buy them.
Because you throw them and they explode, you cannot pick them up again, and Ava’s attractor does not return them either.
Using Black chinchompas
They hit up to 12 targets in a 3x3 area against monsters, or up to 10 targets against players. Red chinchompas hit 11 and 9. The best targets are monsters that are aggressive and pile up on one another, such as the skeletons on Ape Atoll or the maniacal monkeys in Kruk’s Dungeon.
Accuracy works differently from most area attacks. If the first target is hit, every other target in the area is hit too. If the first target is missed, they are all missed. That makes it useful when two monsters stand together with different defence. At Kree’arra in the God Wars Dungeon, throwing at the low-defence minion Flight Kilisa while Kree’arra is in range lets the boss take the hits too.
You pick a fuse length, and it controls speed and accuracy by distance from the target:
- Short fuse (accurate, 4 ticks): 100% accuracy at 0–3 squares, 75% at 4–6, 50% at 7 or more.
- Medium fuse (rapid, 3 ticks): 75% at 0–3, 100% at 4–6, 75% at 7 or more.
- Long fuse (longrange, 4 ticks): 50% at 0–3, 75% at 4–6, 100% at 7 or more.
See ranged gear for what to wear while you throw them.
Black chinchompas or red chinchompas?
Black chinchompas train Ranged and Hitpoints quickly, but the method is very costly because every throw uses one up. Red chinchompas need 55 Ranged to wield, and 63 Hunter plus the Eagles' Peak quest to catch, give +70 ranged attack and +15 ranged strength, and are the next step down. Grey chinchompas have no ranged strength bonus at all.
For a single strong target they are the wrong tool. Chinchompas are for groups. Against one boss you are better off with a normal single-target Ranged weapon, and you can compare choices in the DPS calculator.
Catching them is also a Hunter method for high levels, since it gives fast experience and can be profitable.
