The Etched araxyte fang is the tradeable form of the araxyte fang, the rare Araxxor drop. It is not worn or used in combat. Its one job is to be combined with an amulet of torture, at 86 Crafting, to make the amulet of rancour. Because the plain fang cannot be traded and this one can, it is the form that changes hands.

How to get the Etched araxyte fang

The etched fang is made from a drop, but it can also be bought, because unlike the plain fang it is tradeable.

Ways to obtain it
Grand Exchange — the etched version is tradeable.
Etch an araxyte fang — use a chisel on the fang with 86 Crafting. The Crafting level can be boosted.
Araxxor — the source of the plain araxyte fang, which drops at 1/600 per kill from the unique table.

The etched fang has no other use, so etch a plain fang only if you plan to trade it or use it on an amulet.

What the Etched araxyte fang makes

You combine the etched fang with an amulet of torture at 86 Crafting to make the amulet of rancour. The step gives 500 Crafting experience and does not need a tool.

The rancour amulet is the upgrade of the torture amulet, with +10 melee attack on each style and +2 strength over it, and negative magic and ranged attack bonuses. It needs 90 Hitpoints to wear.

Is the Etched araxyte fang worth it?

It is worth it only if you want the amulet of rancour, since nothing else uses it. The fang is one of two things you pay for in that upgrade, the other being the amulet of torture you start from.

The fang's worth is the price gap between a rancour amulet and a torture amulet. You can read that gap off the live prices on the item pages. Players who are not planning to melee at 90 Hitpoints have no reason to hold one. For other melee gear options, see melee gear.
