The granite hammer is a crush weapon dropped by the Grotesque Guardians, requiring 50 Attack and 50 Strength to wield. Unlike standard warhammers it swings on a 4-tick (2.4s) speed, matching a dragon scimitar, so its +57 crush and +56 Strength translate into real damage over time. Power-wise it sits between the rune scimitar and dragon scimitar, doubling as a rock hammer for gargoyle slayer tasks. Roughly ~3.5M on the GE.
Equipment bonuses
The granite hammer's defining numbers are +57 crush attack and +56 melee Strength, swung at a fast 4-tick (2.4-second) attack speed that no other warhammer matches. It needs 50 Attack and 50 Strength to wield.

Other bonuses
That +56 Strength on a scimitar-speed crush weapon is what makes the granite hammer punch above its level requirement, while its Hammer Blow special and built-in rock-hammer utility add value beyond the raw bonuses.

How to get the granite hammer
The granite hammer is a unique drop from the Grotesque Guardians (Dusk and Dawn) at the top of Slayer Tower, which require a gargoyle Slayer task and level 75 Slayer to fight.
- Drop rate: 1/750 per roll, and the boss rolls the unique table twice per kill, so a successful trip gives two independent 1/750 chances at the hammer.
- The same unique table also holds the granite maul, granite ring, granite gloves and the black tourmaline core, so the hammer competes with those for your rolls.
Because it is tradeable, most players simply buy it off the Grand Exchange for around 3.5M rather than grinding the Guardians.
Granite hammer special attack
The granite hammer's special attack is Hammer Blow, which consumes 60% of your special attack energy.
- It rolls the attack with +50% increased accuracy.
- It guarantees 5 additional damage on top of whatever the hit rolls.
- Even if the special misses, the target still takes a minimum of 5 damage — a handy way to finish a low-HP target or chip a tank.
The guaranteed-damage floor does not apply to NPCs immune to normal attacks, such as vyrewatch or slayer monsters you lack the Slayer level to harm.
Rock hammer & Golembane utility
Beyond combat stats, the granite hammer carries two pieces of built-in slayer utility that set it apart from a plain crush weapon:
- Rock hammer behaviour: equipped or in your inventory, it acts as a rock hammer and will automatically smash gargoyles on a gargoyle task — even if you have not unlocked the gargoyle smasher perk. That saves an inventory slot and a manual finisher.
- Golembane effect: since 27 August 2025 it has a 30% Golembane effect, dealing 30% extra damage and accuracy against golem-type monsters. This stacks multiplicatively with a slayer helmet's bonus, with the helmet's bonus applied first.
Is the granite hammer worth it?
For a low-requirement weapon, the granite hammer is unusually strong. Its 4-tick speed plus +56 Strength puts its damage output between the rune scimitar and dragon scimitar, and it adds a useful spec and rock-hammer utility on top. Against the leaf-bladed sword it trades slightly worse accuracy for a higher Strength bonus and a special attack.
It is not an endgame weapon — by mid-game a abyssal whip and beyond outclass it on most monsters — but at around 3.5M it is a strong, affordable pick for low-to-mid-level mains, and it is the go-to crush option for gargoyle slayer tasks. Compare crush weapons on our melee gear page.
