Echo boots are an upgraded pair of Guardian boots, made by adding an echo crystal from the Fortis Colosseum. They need 75 Defence. They keep the same very high defence, add +2 Prayer over the Guardian boots, and add a passive effect that hits back at attackers for 1 damage using charges.
Equipment bonuses
The defence is the point: +32 stab, +32 slash and +32 crush, plus +24 ranged. These are tied with Guardian boots for the best melee and ranged defence of any boots. They also carry +3 strength and +4 Prayer. The cost is −3 magic attack and defence and −1 ranged attack.
Requires 75 Defence to wear · feet slot · members · untradeable. Standout numbers: +32 / +32 / +32 melee defence, +24 ranged defence and +4 Prayer shown above.
How to get Echo boots
You cannot buy Echo boots. You build them from two other items, and one of those is a rare drop.
Because the Guardian boots and echo crystal are both tradeable, you can buy the parts instead of earning them. The finished Echo boots are untradeable.
How the recoil effect works
The recoil is a passive effect. When something damages you, the boots hit it back for 1 damage, if it is inside a 3x3 square centred on you. The effect runs on charges.
- Each echo crystal adds 6,000 charges, up to 60,000.
- Toggle-activity turns the effect on and off, so you only spend charges when you want to.
- With 0 charges, the boots stay equipped and keep their stats. Only the recoil stops.
The effect is small. 1 damage per hit will not change a fight, but it can kill pitfall hunter creatures, which cannot be damaged in normal combat.
Are Echo boots worth it?
The stats are the same as Guardian boots apart from +2 Prayer (the Guardian boots have +2, these have +4). So the upgrade buys you extra Prayer bonus and the recoil effect. For the defence alone, the Guardian boots already match them.
They are a defensive choice. Primordial boots and Avernic treads give more strength for damage-focused setups, and Bandos boots are the step below Guardian boots. Use the gear compare tool to set any pair side by side.
At 7 kg they are very heavy, like the Guardian boots they come from.
