Gloves of silence

“Made from dark kebbit fur, these are perfect for tasks of a stealthier nature.”

The Gloves of silence are a Thieving item, not a combat one. They need 54 Hunter to wear, give a flat +5% pickpocketing success chance, and wear out after 62 failed pickpockets. They are cheap, they are made from dark kebbit fur, and they have a hard expiry date: once you finish the hard Ardougne diary they stop doing anything at all.

Equipment bonuses

There is almost nothing here — +1 slash and +2 crush defence and zeros everywhere else. The gloves are worn for their pickpocketing effect, which does not appear on the equipment table at all.

How to get Gloves of silence

They are made to order from dark kebbit fur, or simply bought.

Ways to obtain it
Make them — take 2 unnoted dark kebbit furs and 600 coins to the Fancy Clothes Store in Varrock, Pellem in the Hunter Guild, or the Seamstress in Prifddinas.
Hunt the furs — dark kebbits are caught with falconry at the Piscatoris falconry area, which needs 57 Hunter.
Grand Exchange — they are tradeable and cheap, with a buy limit of 8,000 every 4 hours. For most players this is the sensible route.

Since a pair only survives 62 failed pickpockets, plan on buying several rather than one — or keep spare dark kebbit furs to repair them at 64 Crafting.

How the pickpocket bonus works

The gloves add a flat +5% success chance to pickpocketing while worn. The value of that is bigger than it looks, because a failed pickpocket stuns you for longer than a successful one takes — cutting failures cuts dead time. In practice the gloves are worth roughly 7–25% more Thieving XP per hour, with the larger gains at low base success rates.

They degrade only on failures: 62 failed pickpockets and the pair breaks. The Check option tells you how many are left. A repair costs one dark kebbit fur plus thread, a knife and a needle, and needs 64 Crafting — no experience is given.

The important caveat is the Ardougne diary. Its medium tier grants a 10% pickpocket bonus inside Ardougne that does not stack with the gloves, so there they are inert and do not even wear down. The hard tier applies that bonus everywhere else, which retires the gloves for good. No Ardougne cloak needs to be worn for this.

Are Gloves of silence worth it?

For a short stretch of the game, yes. They cost very little, they measurably speed up Thieving, and there is no competing item in the hands slot while you are training it — Barrows gloves do nothing for pickpocketing.

After that they are dead weight. The hard Ardougne diary gives a larger bonus that works everywhere and never breaks, so the gloves stop mattering the moment you finish it. If you are close to that diary, skip them.

If you already have the full rogue set, keep the rogue gloves on. The set's guaranteed double loot is worth more than the gloves' extra success chance unless you are chasing XP rate rather than profit.

Gloves of silence FAQ

What do the Gloves of silence do?
They raise your pickpocketing success chance by 5% while worn. That does not sound like much, but failed pickpockets carry a stun, so removing failures raises Thieving XP rates by roughly 7–25% depending on how likely you were to succeed to begin with.
What level do you need for Gloves of silence?
54 Hunter to wear them. To make a pair yourself you also need to hunt dark kebbits, which requires 57 Hunter at the Piscatoris falconry area.
How do you make Gloves of silence?
Bring two unnoted dark kebbit furs and 600 coins to the Fancy Clothes Store in Varrock, to Pellem in the Hunter Guild, or to the Seamstress in Prifddinas.
How long do Gloves of silence last?
They break after 62 failed pickpockets — successful ones do not count. You can check how much life is left with the gloves' Check option.
Can you repair Gloves of silence?
Yes. Use a dark kebbit fur on them while carrying thread, a knife and a needle. Repairing needs 64 Crafting and gives no experience.
Do Gloves of silence stack with the Ardougne diary?
No. The medium Ardougne diary gives a 10% pickpocket bonus in Ardougne, which is larger than the gloves' 5% and does not stack — so inside Ardougne the gloves do nothing and do not even degrade. The hard diary extends that bonus across the rest of Gielinor, at which point the gloves are obsolete everywhere.
Gloves of silence or rogue gloves?
Rogue gloves, if you have the full rogue set. The complete set guarantees double pickpocket loot; swapping the rogue gloves for gloves of silence drops you to a 60% chance of doubling and about 20% less loot overall, in exchange for faster XP.
Are Gloves of silence worth buying?
Only in the window before the hard Ardougne diary. They are cheap and they speed up Thieving XP, but they are a temporary item with a fixed lifespan — do not stockpile them.
