Ice gloves

“These will keep my hands cold!”

Ice gloves are a skilling and quest utility item, not a combat upgrade. The Ice Queen under White Wolf Mountain drops them, you need them for several quest steps, and they let you carry hot items without a bucket of water. They are not tradeable, so you earn them yourself.

Equipment bonuses

The only bonuses are +3 slash, +4 crush and +2 ranged defence. Every attack, strength and Prayer bonus is zero. They are not worn for their bonuses. They are worn for what they let you do, including a few quest fights.

How to get Ice gloves

There is only one source, and it is open to any members account that can reach her.

Ways to obtain it
Ice Queen — she sits in a lair under White Wolf Mountain and always drops a pair. Protect from Melee makes the fight simple.
Mining 50 (boostable) — you need it to mine the rockslide on the way to her lair. You do not need to start Heroes' Quest to do this.

A skiller can take a tank account with high Hitpoints (70 or more) along, with a few rings of recoil and food, to get gloves without much combat training.

What Ice gloves are used for

Quests:

  • picking up fire feathers in Heroes' Quest;
  • wielding weapons against Fareed in Desert Treasure I, when you fight him up close;
  • wielding weapons against Flambeed in Recipe for Disaster;
  • putting the pet rock into the geyser and taking it back in The Fremennik Exiles.

They replace a bucket of water when you collect hot bars at the Blast Furnace, pick up a preform in Giants' Foundry, or pick up a black cog in the Clock Tower quest. You need them to catch infernal eels. They also stop the damage when you pickpocket a TzHaar-Hur or charge bottled dragonbreath.

Ice gloves or other gloves

Ice gloves are not a fighting glove. For combat you wear a pair with real bonuses, and you swap the Ice gloves in only when a task needs them. The melee gear page covers the stronger options.

If you also smith, combining them with Smiths gloves gives Smiths gloves (i), so you carry one item instead of two.
