3rd age platebody

“Fabulously ancient armour beaten from magical silver.”

The 3rd age platebody is a body-slot piece from the 3rd age melee armour set, requiring 65 Defence to wear. It carries heavy melee defence (+96 stab, +108 slash, +113 crush) and a strong +97 ranged defence, but no strength bonus and a -20 magic attack penalty, so it sees little use in actual combat. It only comes from hard, elite and master Treasure Trail rewards or The Mimic, and see the live Grand Exchange price & history chart above for its current value, driven by rarity and prestige rather than raw stats.

Equipment bonuses

The 3rd age platebody's bonuses resemble a chainbody, emphasising crush defence: +96 stab, +108 slash and +113 crush, plus a notably high +97 ranged defence and a small -4 magic defence, all behind a 65 Defence requirement.

As armour it has no attack speed, and it gives no strength bonus alongside a -20 magic attack penalty, so it adds nothing to your damage output whichever combat style you fight with.

How to get the 3rd age platebody

The 3rd age platebody cannot be bought from a shop, dropped by a monster's normal loot table, or made through Smithing — it only comes from Treasure Trails. It's a possible reward from hard, elite and master clue scrolls, rolling at 1/211,250 from a hard reward casket, 1/249,262.5 from an elite casket, and 1/313,168 from a master casket.

It can also drop from The Mimic, the boss fought after handing in an elite or master clue: roughly 1/5,750 (elite) or 1/5,244 (master) if you kill it on the first attempt, dropping slightly to 1/6,072 and 1/5,520 on later attempts. Because it's tradeable, almost everyone who owns one bought it on the Grand Exchange rather than earned it from clues, with a buy limit of 8 every 4 hours.

Is the 3rd age platebody worth it?

Defensively it's genuinely strong — the wiki notes it has the third-highest melee defence bonuses of any non-degradable body armour, only surpassed by the justiciar chestguard and Torva platebody. But it offers no strength bonus and a -20 magic attack penalty, and given its price and lack of offensive stats, it's very rarely worn for actual combat.

Almost all demand comes from players collecting the 3rd age melee set for its look, which can be stored in the costume room's treasure chest once unlocked. If you want a non-degradable body slot purely for stats, the far cheaper Bandos chestplate gives a strength bonus and better ranged defence for a fraction of the cost; see our melee gear picks for other options.

3rd age platebody FAQ

What level do you need to wear the 3rd age platebody?

You need 65 Defence to equip the 3rd age platebody. There is no other skill requirement.

How do you get the 3rd age platebody?

It's a possible reward from hard, elite and master Treasure Trail caskets, and can also drop from The Mimic. Since it's tradeable, most players simply buy it on the Grand Exchange instead of grinding clues for one.

Is the 3rd age platebody the best body armour in OSRS?

No. It has the third-highest melee defence bonuses among non-degradable body armour, beaten by the justiciar chestguard and Torva platebody, both of which also have higher requirements and are harder to obtain.

How much is the 3rd age platebody worth?

See the live price and history chart above for the current figure — 3rd age prices move with cosmetic demand.

Can you make the 3rd age platebody with Smithing?

No. It cannot be created through the Smithing skill — the only way to obtain one is from Treasure Trail rewards or The Mimic.

Is the 3rd age platebody good for combat?

Not really. It gives no strength bonus and a -20 magic attack penalty, so despite its strong defensive bonuses it's mostly bought and worn for its rarity and look rather than combat performance.

Can you high alch the 3rd age platebody?

You could — high alchemy gives 120K — but since it sells for far more than that on the Grand Exchange, alching one would destroy an enormous amount of value. Sell it instead.

Does the 3rd age platebody degrade?

No. It's non-degradable, so it never needs repairing or recharging and can be stored permanently in the costume room's treasure chest.
