Bow of faerdhinen

“A magical elven bow.”

The Bow of Faerdhinen, usually called the bowfa, is a crystal bow that needs 80 Ranged and 70 Agility. It has the highest ranged attack and ranged strength of any weapon at its attack speed, and it makes its own arrows. With a full crystal armour set it gets up to 15% more damage and 30% more accuracy.

Equipment bonuses

The charged bow gives +128 ranged attack and +106 ranged strength, and nothing else. It fires its own arrows, so you do not carry ammo. When its charges run out the bow turns inactive and loses both bonuses.

How to get the Bow of Faerdhinen

The bow is sung from the same seed as the Blade of Saeldor.

Ways to obtain it
Enhanced crystal weapon seed — a rare drop from the Gauntlet, and tradeable. See the enhanced crystal weapon seed page.
Sing it yourself — combine the seed and 100 crystal shards at a singing bowl. You need Song of the Elves completed, plus 82 Smithing and 82 Crafting (both boostable). This gives 5,000 XP in each skill.
Pay to have it sung — without the levels, Conwenna or Reese will do it for 50 extra shards, so 150 in total.
Grand Exchange — the inactive bow is tradeable, and that is the form priced on this page.

A new bow starts with 10,000 charges.

Crystal armour and charges

Each piece of crystal armour (helm, body and legs) adds damage and accuracy to the bow. With all three you get +15% damage and +30% accuracy. The same set bonus also works with the Crystal bow.

The bow uses one charge per attack, hit or miss. Each crystal shard adds 100 charges, up to 20,000, and an elven signet does not save charges.

Corrupting it stops the degrading for good. It costs 2,000 crystal shards at a singing bowl with 82 Smithing and 82 Crafting, or 1,000 extra shards if Conwenna or Reese does it. Both the charges still in the bow and the charges you have used count toward that total, so a new bow with 10,000 charges needs only 1,900 more. The corrupted bow is untradeable, and reverting it loses the shards.

On death in PvM, or a protected death in PvP, you keep your charges. On an unprotected PvP death the inactive bow drops and the shards are lost.

Bow of Faerdhinen vs other ranged weapons

With crystal armour on, the bowfa does less damage per second than the Twisted bow against monsters with high Magic levels, and less than the Toxic blowpipe against monsters with low Defence. Those two weapons are each strongest in their own niche.

The bowfa's strength is that it has no big weakness. High accuracy, high damage per shot, a medium attack speed and a long range make it steady across most content. See ranged gear for the gear around it.

Does the Bow of Faerdhinen need arrows?

Can you sell a charged Bow of Faerdhinen?
No. Only the inactive bow is tradeable. Reverting it to a seed costs 250 shards, so selling the inactive bow is usually simpler.
Can you alch the Bow of Faerdhinen?
No. The bow cannot be alched with High or Low Level Alchemy.
