Phoenix necklace

“In case of emergency, wear necklace.”

The Phoenix necklace is a one-use emergency item. If your Hitpoints fall to 20% of your maximum or below while you wear it, it heals you for 30% of your maximum and then breaks. It also wipes pending hits from the attack buffer, which is why it is used as a gear switch against special attacks that hit more than once.

Equipment bonuses

The necklace has no combat bonuses. Every attack, defence, strength, magic damage and prayer bonus is zero, so it does nothing for your normal damage or defence. Its value is entirely in the effect that triggers when your health gets low.

How to get a Phoenix necklace

You can buy one or make your own. The buy limit is 10,000 every 4 hours.

Ways to obtain it
Grand Exchange — buy them ready-made.
Magic — cast Lvl-4 Enchant on a Diamond necklace. It needs 57 Magic, 10 earth runes and 1 cosmic rune, and gives 67 Magic experience. Manual casting takes 3 ticks and auto-casting takes 7.

The Diamond necklace itself is made from a gold bar, a diamond and a necklace mould at a furnace, at 56 Crafting.

How the Phoenix necklace works

The trigger is simple: your Hitpoints fall to 20% of your maximum or below. The necklace restores 30% of your base Hitpoints level, rounded down, and is destroyed. It also clears the attack buffer, so queued hits that had not landed yet are cancelled.

  • It beats multi-hit specials: once one hit triggers it, the remaining hits from Dragon claws or a Dark bow are cancelled.
  • With a Ring of life also worn, the necklace goes first.
  • Self-inflicted damage, like a dwarven rock cake, can trigger it.
  • It does not work in Bounty Hunter. In some game modes it is treated as food, so a no-food rule blocks it.

Are Phoenix necklaces worth it?

It is often brought in PvP as a gear switch against multi-hit specials. It also works as a safety net for any fight where you can fall quickly to low health. It is a poor choice as an everyday necklace, since it gives no stats and is used up after one proc.

For PvM or normal fighting, compare it with other neck slot items before wearing it all day. The item list has the ones that add real stats.

Phoenix necklace FAQ

What does a Phoenix necklace do?
When you drop to 20% of your maximum Hitpoints or below, it restores 30% of your maximum and is destroyed. It also clears any pending damage from delayed attacks, such as spells and arrows still in flight.
How much does a Phoenix necklace heal?
30% of your base Hitpoints level, rounded down. At 70 Hitpoints it heals 21, at 80 it heals 24, and at 99 it heals 29.
How do you make a Phoenix necklace?
Cast Lvl-4 Enchant on a Diamond necklace. It needs 57 Magic, 10 earth runes and 1 cosmic rune, and gives 67 Magic experience. You can also buy one on the Grand Exchange. The Diamond necklace is made at a furnace from a gold bar and a diamond with a necklace mould, at 56 Crafting.
Does a Phoenix necklace work against Dragon claws or Dark bow specials?
Yes, it cancels the later hits of multi-hit specials such as Dragon claws and the Dark bow once one hit triggers it. That is why it is carried as a PvP switch.
Phoenix necklace or Ring of life?
They can be worn together. If one hit takes you from above 20% to under 10% and you wear both, the necklace activates first. The ring teleports you to your respawn point at 10% Hitpoints or below. The necklace heals you instead.
Can you use a Phoenix necklace with Redemption?
If both are worn and Redemption is on, the necklace is used and Redemption does not activate.
Where can't you use a Phoenix necklace?
It does not work in Bounty Hunter. In Tombs of Amascut with the On a Diet invocation, and in legacy Emir's Arena duels with No Food, it counts as food and gives no effect.
Do Phoenix necklaces degrade or have charges?
No. Each necklace has exactly one use and is destroyed when it activates.
