The Virtus robe bottom is the legs piece of the Virtus robes, a magic armour set that drops from four bosses: The Leviathan, The Whisperer, Vardorvis and Duke Sucellus. It needs 78 Magic and 75 Defence, and what sets it apart is a magic damage bonus that grows when you cast Ancient Magicks spells. This page is the legs only; the body is the Virtus robe top.

How to get the Virtus robe bottom

The legs piece is a rare drop from four bosses. It is also tradeable, so you can buy it instead of waiting on a drop.

Ways to obtain it
Grand Exchange — it is tradeable, with a buy limit of 8 every 4 hours.
Boss drops — the drop rates for the robe bottom are: The Whisperer 1/1,536, Duke Sucellus 1/2,160, The Leviathan 1/2,304 and Vardorvis 1/3,264.

You need 78 Magic and 75 Defence to wear it. If you are short on levels, the Ancestral robe bottom needs 75 Magic and 65 Defence instead.

What the Virtus robes do

The Virtus robes are a three-piece magic set. Each piece gives 2% magic damage, so a full set gives 6%. When you cast Ancient Magicks spells, each piece counts for 5% instead, which makes 15% across the full set.

The bottom is only one third of that. The matching body is the Virtus robe top, and the set bonus only reaches its full size with all three pieces worn.

Virtus gear also gives protection from Zaros' followers in the God Wars Dungeon's Ancient Prison. The whole set can be kept in the magic wardrobe of a player-owned house.

Virtus vs Ancestral robe bottoms

The closest rival in the legs slot is the Ancestral robe bottom. Both have +26 magic attack. Virtus has the bigger defences (+31 / +28 / +34 against stab, slash and crush, +22 magic, versus +27 / +24 / +30 and +20 on Ancestral) and a slightly worse ranged penalty (−9 versus −7). Ancestral has a higher flat magic damage figure (3% against 2%).

That comparison does not capture the Virtus Ancient Magicks bonus described above, so the right pick depends on which spellbook you cast from. Virtus also asks for more: 78 Magic and 75 Defence against Ancestral's 75 Magic and 65 Defence.
