Dagannoth Supreme Best in Slot Gear & Strategy Guide

Dagannoth Supreme spawns and roams on the western side of the Dagannoth Kings' lair, the deepest (sixth) floor of the Waterbirth Island Dungeon. The lair is reached via the Kings' ladder deep inside the dungeon. There is no quest requirement to fight him, but he can also be killed in a separate Slayer lair — accessed by using the "Slayer" option on the ladder — while on a Dagannoth Slayer task assigned by Vannaka, Chaeldar, Konar, Nieve or Duradel.

There are no hard skill gates, but the recommended skills for the Kings are around 70+ Attack, 70+ Strength, 75+ Magic, 70+ Ranged, 60+ Defence (80+ recommended), 70+ Hitpoints and 45+ Prayer for Mystic Might (70+ for Piety). An 85 Agility shortcut (or 80 with a Summer pie boost) skips the tunnels and the need for a rune thrownaxe and pet rock. Because Supreme is weak to melee, you fight him with a fast, high-Strength-bonus melee weapon — the meta picks are the abyssal whip or abyssal tentacle for their speed and Strength bonus, with the Saradomin godsword doubling as both a special-attack weapon and a melee weapon to save an inventory slot. If you lack a godsword or crystal halberd, a dragon dagger is a good alternative special-attack weapon. Note that Supreme's Ranged defence was deliberately raised from 255 to 550 to reduce the twisted bow's effectiveness against him — do not range Supreme.

Since most trips kill all three Kings, the practical loadout is a tribrid one (melee for Supreme, ranged for Prime, magic for Rex) with extra Ranged defence and prayer bonus to soak the Spinolyps. Bring your switch equipment for the other two Kings, a Saradomin godsword (or dragon dagger) for specials, and a rune pouch with the runes for whatever you plan to cast (Death Charge, blood spells to heal, or ice spells to freeze Rex). For sustain, carry 2–3 super combat and ranging potions, sanfew serums or super restores, and 1–2 Saradomin brews for emergency healing; sharks work for simpler, cheaper trips. Antipoison protection is important because the Spinolyps in the surrounding moat poison players — a serpentine helm grants poison immunity and removes the need for antidotes. An explorer's ring handles energy and High Level Alchemy, a herb sack collects grimy ranarr weed, and a rune thrownaxe plus pet rock get you there unless you use the Agility shortcut. A higher Prayer level lets your overhead prayers carry the fight.

Ranged attack (Protect from Missiles). Supreme attacks with Ranged on a 4-tick attack speed for a max hit of 30. The projectile sounds like the Water Wave spell, splashes if it misses, and can hit multiple players standing within the 6x6 area around his target. When Supreme is the King attacking you, pray Protect from Missiles. He hits harder than Rex but lower than Prime.

Prime respawning (Protect from Magic). The biggest threat while killing Supreme is that Dagannoth Prime may respawn and open up with hard-hitting magic. To stay safe, turn on Protect from Magic — Prime hits the hardest of the three (up to roughly 50) and can kill in two hits — or leave up the ladder. Protect from Magic should ideally already be on before you enter the lair.

Rex respawning. Alternatively Dagannoth Rex (a melee attacker) may respawn. Rex is easily dealt with: lure or bind him to a wall safespot, or use Entangle / ice spells to freeze him — there is no need to actually kill him to continue on Supreme.

The lair is multicombat, so the goal is to spend as little time as possible being attacked by more than one King. Protect from Magic should be on before you drop down, since Prime is accurate and hits the hardest. Supreme's western spawn makes it more likely a second King notices you, so opening directly on Supreme is usually the hardest start.

A clean tribrid rotation: enter without drawing aggression and run the southern wall to the east side, safespot Rex with magic, rotate north and range Prime, then rotate back south to kill Supreme with melee — staying as far west as possible to avoid Rex when he respawns — before returning to the eastern wall to safespot Rex again. Ideally defeat Supreme after Prime so the two aren't hitting you at once. With very high Defence and strong armour, Rex and Supreme only land 15–30% of their hits, letting you tank both under Protect from Magic and clean them up. Between kills, you can heal off the Spinolyps with Guthan's, a Saradomin godsword or blood spells.

Supreme is the reason this corner of the lair is worth farming: he is the only monster that drops the archers ring and the seercull bow, both at 1/128. He also drops the dragon axe at 1/128, shared across all three Kings, and the Pet dagannoth supreme at 1/5000. His guaranteed drops are Dagannoth bones and Dagannoth hide — the bones become noted with the elite Fremennik Diary, which meaningfully boosts profit. Ranging Supreme. His Ranged defence is 550 (raised specifically to blunt the twisted bow) — always fight him with melee, where his defence is only 10.

Wrong overhead. When Prime is up, Protect from Magic must stay on — Prime hits hardest and can two-shot you. Only switch to Protect from Missiles when Supreme alone is the one attacking you.

Skipping antipoison. The Spinolyps in the moat poison you (starting at 6 damage); bring antidote++/sanfew serums or wear a serpentine helm.

Trying to kill Rex. Rex is a distraction — lure, bind or freeze him rather than wasting time and supplies killing him to stay on Supreme.
