Scorpia Strategy Guide

Scorpia is a Scorpion boss found beneath the Scorpion Pit within the deep wilderness.

As Scorpia is a Scorpion, Scorpia kills will count towards a Scorpion slayer task.

Outside of the Odium shard and the Malediction shard drops, Scorpia’s drop table is not very lucrative so it is rarely killed outside of Slayer tasks.

The most common tactic to use at Scorpia is to farcast her with Magic using freeze spells.

Scorpia - Magic - Freeze Spells Guide

Scorpia is one of the few bosses in the game in which Freeze spells can be used effectively. As Scorpia has a low magic defence, you can successfully keep her frozen and farcast her. In this manner you can avoid Scorpia’s powerful melee attack which allows you to use the protection from missiles prayer to protect yourself from the ranged attacks of Scorpia’s offspring.

Scorpia has a powerful poison attack which should be protected against with an antidote++. Her offspring also drain your prayer when they attack so special attention should be paid to your prayer points.

At 50% health, Scorpia will spawn two guardians which will attempt to heal Scorpia. At this point you have two options. You can simply kill the guardians as they only have 70hp and are equally weak to magic – or you can freeze them and they will despawn after 15 seconds.

Scorpia Guide

Scorpia is a large female scorpion who rules the cave beneath the Scorpion Pit in the north-east Wilderness. With a combat level of 225 and 200 Hitpoints, she is one of the original Wilderness bosses, released on 13 March 2014. Her examine text sums her up neatly: "Queen of the Scorpions."

The real challenge here is rarely Scorpia herself. She is fought in a multi-combat area in level 50+ Wilderness, so the bigger threat is the player killers who hunt distracted bossers. She is the only monster that drops the odium shard 3 and malediction shard 3 — the pieces used to forge the odium ward and malediction ward — which makes this lair a popular destination despite the danger. Her unique twist is a pair of healing guardians she summons part-way through the fight, so a clean kill is as much about positioning as it is about magic gear and damage.

Requirements & where to fight

Scorpia is a members-only boss with no quest requirement. You will find her in a cave in the Scorpion Pit in the north-east Wilderness — the pit itself sits around Wilderness level 53-55, deep enough that you are flagged for PvP throughout the trip.

Because the lair is a multi-combat area in level 50+ Wilderness, player killers can pile onto you while you are busy with the boss. The standard precaution is to bring only what you are willing to lose: most players take just 3 or 4 expensive items and tank the rest, since an off-guard player can be killed quickly. For escape and rebuilding you will lean on your usual Prayer and Hitpoints setup. Recommended skill levels are light: Magic 70+ (to wield an Accursed sceptre) and Prayer 40+ (for Protect from Missiles).

Recommended stats & gear

Scorpia is a magic-style kill. She has very low magic defence and a 35% elemental weakness to fire spells, so a minimally geared player will rarely miss her — which means the meta prioritises magic damage and prayer bonus over magic accuracy to reduce risk and prolong trips. That fire weakness means the highest fire spell you can cast (such as Fire Surge) hits notably harder than other elements if you are not using a powered staff. The classic approach is a freezing setup: an ice spell to lock her in place while you attack from outside melee range.

The key item families are a powered staff or freezing-capable weapon (the wiki's setup centres on the Accursed sceptre, with the trident of the swamp noted for adding poison damage over a kill), a magic-damage / prayer-bonus body and legs, and a shield or magic offhand. If you bring a powered staff, a magic boost such as a Magic potion, Forgotten brew, or a Saturated/Imbued heart adds extra damage. Crucially, do not overspend on gear you cannot afford to lose here — this is the Wilderness. For the exact best-in-slot loadout tuned to your stats and budget, use our Boss Gear Finder above, and read up on the wider style in our Magic guide.

Inventory & supplies

Your inventory is built around two jobs: out-damaging Scorpia's heals, and surviving both her poison and any PKers. The wiki's suggested kit includes:

  • Anti-poison — araxyte venom sacks, or antidote++/superantipoison (Sanfew serums also restore some prayer). Scorpia poisons starting at 20 damage, and her offspring from 6, so this is not optional.
  • Freezing runes — 100+ casts of an ice/entangle sack for Ice Blitz, Ice Barrage, or Entangle; bring 300+ if you plan to last a full trip.
  • Brews and restores — 4+ Saradomin brews and 6+ Blighted super restores to sustain HP, stats, and prayer.
  • High-healing food — primarily for escaping player killers; a mix of manta rays and cooked karambwan is recommended since both can be eaten in the same tick.
  • Escape tools — 1-2 Stamina potions, a Wilderness sword and a knife/slash weapon if running from the Edgeville lever, a Lockpick for the magic axe hut, Black d'hide body and chaps for tanking PKers, and a looting bag.

Fight mechanics

Scorpia's fight breaks into a few distinct threats you handle at the same time:

  • Scorpia's melee — she attacks with a Stab style at speed 4 for up to 16 damage. Note the catch: whether her hit lands or not, it drains your prayer points by 2 if you have Protect from Melee active. The magic strategy sidesteps this by staying out of melee range entirely.
  • Poison — Scorpia inflicts poison starting at 20 damage, which is why anti-poison is mandatory rather than optional.
  • Scorpia's offspring — the pit is filled with offspring that use weak but accurate ranged attacks (max hit 2) and poison from 6. You counter their chip damage with Protect from Missiles, which is the main protection prayer for the whole fight.
  • The healing guardians — once Scorpia reaches 99 health or lower (roughly 50% of her 200 HP), her next attack causes her to summon two guardians that continually heal her while within 3 tiles. They do not respawn once killed, and they despawn if kept too far from Scorpia to heal her for 15 seconds.

Strategy / kill rotation

The effective method exploits Scorpia's low magic defence:

  • Open by freezing her with Ice Barrage (Ice Burst, Ice Blitz, or Entangle also work), then stay out of melee range and attack with magic while praying Protect from Missiles to shrug off the offspring.
  • As she nears half health, pre-position yourself on the side you intend to lure toward, because her next hit will spawn the two guardians.
  • When the guardians appear, wait until Scorpia is about to unfreeze, then quickly freeze both guardians and lure Scorpia away from them. With careful timing she should unfreeze very soon after you bind the guardians — pulling her out of their 3-tile range causes them to despawn, leaving Scorpia easy to finish.
  • A handy tip: set NPC attack options to "always right click" (or use a Menu Entry Swapper plugin) so you do not accidentally click the offspring, which wastes runes and disrupts your movement.

Notable drops

Scorpia's headline rewards are her two shards: she is the only monster to drop the odium shard 3 and malediction shard 3 — each at 1/256 for a specific shard (or 1/128 for either). These forge the odium ward and malediction ward. Her gear table includes a dragon 2h sword and dragon scimitar, and she has a tertiary looting bag drop at 1/3. Like the other early Wilderness bosses, she also has a very slim chance of dropping her own pet. The full drop table — with every rate — is shown above.

Common mistakes

  • Underestimating the PKers. The boss is the easy part; the multi-combat 50+ Wilderness lair is where trips end. Carry escape food, stamina, and tank gear, and never risk what you cannot replace.
  • Skipping anti-poison. With Scorpia poisoning from 20 and her offspring from 6, going without anti-poison bleeds you out over a trip.
  • Praying the wrong prayer. Protect from Melee drains your prayer 2 per Scorpia attack and leaves you open to the ranged offspring — Protect from Missiles is the correct call for the magic method.
  • Letting the guardians heal her. Failing to freeze and split Scorpia from her guardians lets them out-heal your damage. Pre-position before half HP so you can lure her clear the instant they spawn.
  • Accidentally clicking the offspring. Tab-targeting the wrong NPC wastes runes and ruins your positioning — lock your click options first.

Scorpia Guide — FAQ

Do I need a Slayer task to fight Scorpia?

No. Scorpia has no quest or Slayer requirement and can be fought freely. She can be assigned as a Scorpions task by several Slayer masters, and you earn 260 Slayer experience per kill, but a task is not required to enter the lair.

What makes Scorpia worth killing?

She is the only monster that drops the odium shard 3 and malediction shard 3 (each 1/256, or 1/128 for either shard), used to build the odium ward and malediction ward. Her table also includes a dragon 2h sword, dragon scimitar, and a frequent looting bag drop.

Why does Scorpia keep healing back up?

Once she drops to 99 health or lower, her next attack summons two guardians that continually heal her while within 3 tiles. You must freeze the guardians and lure Scorpia out of range — they then despawn after 15 seconds of being unable to reach her, and they do not respawn if killed.

What prayer should I use against Scorpia?

For the standard magic method, use Protect from Missiles to block the accurate ranged attacks of Scorpia's offspring. Avoid Protect from Melee — Scorpia drains 2 prayer points per attack while it is active, and you should be staying out of her melee range anyway. You'll want Prayer 40+ to use it.
