The Gauntlet Strategy Guide

Requirements - Song of the Elves

The Gauntlet is a solo minigame in Prifddinas, unlocked after the Song of the Elves quest. Each run drops you into a randomly generated instance with nothing but your stats. You gather raw materials inside the instance, craft your own weapons, armour and food from scratch, then fight the boss at the centre. There are two versions: the normal Gauntlet and the Corrupted Gauntlet, a harder variant with worse starting conditions and better rewards.

The prep loop is half the fight. You mine crystal shards and ore, chop crystal and phren bark, and fish paddlefish for food, then use those resources to build a tier of weapon and armour and cook your supplies. Manage the timer and your resources well and you walk into the boss fully kitted. Rush it and you fight the Hunllef undergeared.

The boss is the Crystalline Hunllef (Corrupted Hunllef in the corrupted version), and it tests two things at once. It alternates between Magic and Ranged attacks, so you flick the matching protection prayer each time it switches. Separately, it builds a damage cap against whatever combat style you are using, so you bring two attack styles, usually a halberd and the bow, and swap between them to keep your damage from being throttled. Tornadoes spawn during the fight and must be walked away from while you keep this rotation going.

The Hunllef drops the crystal armour seed and the enhanced crystal weapon seed, used to make crystal armour, the Blade of saeldor and the Bow of faerdhinen. The Corrupted Gauntlet is a real step up in difficulty since you cannot fall back on normal-world resources, but its drop rates are better, making it the more efficient grind once you can clear it reliably. Run the normal version first to learn the mechanics, then move to corrupted when deaths stop being about execution.

The Gauntlet - Regular Guide

You enter the Gauntlet with nothing — every item shown here is crafted inside the raid from resources you gather (ore, bark, fish, herbs, crystal shards). This is the full target set while you learn: a complete suit of perfected crystal armour plus a crystal weapon. Build the whole set before fighting the Crystalline Hunllef. New to it? See the OSRS Wiki strategy guide.

The Gauntlet - Speedrunning Guide

A faster, partial craft for experienced players chasing kills per hour. You still craft everything inside the raid — this setup skips some perfected pieces to save gathering time, trading a little survivability for speed. Only attempt once the regular craft feels comfortable. Tactics: OSRS Wiki strategy guide.

The Gauntlet - Regular Corrupted Guide

The Corrupted Gauntlet is considerably harder and rewards more. As in regular mode you craft all of this gear inside from gathered resources — nothing is brought in. Aim for a full suit of corrupted armour and a corrupted weapon before facing the Corrupted Hunllef. Learn the mechanics first on the OSRS Wiki strategy guide.

The Gauntlet — Frequently Asked Questions

What is the recommended gear for The Gauntlet in OSRS?

The recommended setup for The Gauntlet is shown above — a hand-picked loadout for this encounter rather than an auto-ranked gear grid, because the gauntlet isn't a standard combat-DPS fight (it's a raid, skilling, or multi-phase encounter where the best setup depends on role and mechanics, not a single damage number).

Bring the inventory shown alongside it (food, potions, and any fight-specific items), and check the strategy notes for how to approach each phase.

What stats do I need to fight The Gauntlet?

Check the "Requirements" line at the top of this guide — it lists the recommended combat stats and quest prerequisites. As a general rule, you can engage the gauntlet at the listed minimums, but expect slower kills and more food consumption. Higher combat stats (especially Strength, Ranged Strength, or Magic Damage % depending on the style) translate directly to faster, safer kills.

If your stats are below the recommended minimums, consider training at easier slayer tasks first — efficiency goes up dramatically once you can actually use BiS gear effectively.

Do I need full BiS gear to kill The Gauntlet?

No. Full BiS makes kills faster but is rarely required. Most players clear the gauntlet with mid-to-high tier gear — the difference between a Bandos chest and Torva, or a Trident and Shadow, is typically 5-15% DPS. That matters at endgame raid speeds; it doesn't matter for slayer or casual PvM.

Use the BiS gear above as your aspirational target, but start with what you have. The boss tells you what works through your kill speed and food usage.

How do I get to The Gauntlet?

Travel to The Gauntlet varies by boss. Check the OSRS Wiki for the exact teleport or walking path — most bosses have a fairy ring code, a slayer master teleport, or a quest reward teleport that works. Bring a way back to the bank between trips: skull-tricks, Achievement Diary teleports, or a House teleport are common.

If you're fighting The Gauntlet on a slayer task, your slayer master's teleport will usually drop you right at the lair entrance.

What are the best drops from The Gauntlet?

The "Notable Drops" section above lists the top items from The Gauntlet — the ones most players are actually grinding for. Most boss tables include a unique (the most valuable rare drop), a handful of mid-tier uniques, and a steady stream of GP-value drops like alchables, runes, and crafting materials.

Drop rates and exact loot tables come from the OSRS game data; specific roll mechanics (1/X, scales with kill count, etc.) vary boss-to-boss — check the OSRS Wiki for full drop tables and rate-of-return calculations.

How do I afford The Gauntlet gear?

Most BiS items for the gauntlet come from raids (Tombs of Amascut, Theatre of Blood, Chambers of Xeric) or specific bosses you'd need to grind separately. The Grand Exchange shortcuts the grind for tradeable items: BiS gear costs anywhere from a few million to a few billion GP per piece.

For non-Ironman accounts almost everything is tradeable, so the fastest route is usually to farm GP at a profitable boss, then buy the tradeable upgrades off the GE rather than grinding each drop directly.

How much DPS will my setup do against The Gauntlet?

Use our OSRS DPS Calculator to find out. Load your stats from the hiscores, equip your gear, pick The Gauntlet as the target, and the calculator shows your max hit, hit chance, and DPS across melee, ranged, and magic so you can see which style wins for this fight.
