The Inferno Best in Slot Gear & Strategy Guide

The Inferno Strategy Guide

AKA - Zuk Requirements - 1 x Firecape

The Inferno is the successor to the Fight Caves  – designed to be the most difficult solo challenge in the entire game. Like the Fight Caves, the player must battle through 68 waves which get increasingly more difficult until finally, you must beat the final boss of the Inferno – TzKal-Zuk.

It is possible to get The Inferno as a slayer task, which can help significantly reduce the difficulty of the challenge – but this slayer task will only be awarded to players who have already completed The Inferno at least once.

Upon completion of the Inferno, players will be awarded the Best in Slot melee cape in the game – the Infernal Cape.

The most common tactic for completion of The Inferno is to use Ranged. Ideally, a Ranged level of 90+ in combination with a Twisted Bow will allow most players – with a lot of practice and a bit of luck – to complete The Inferno.

It is highly recommended to only attempt The Inferno at a very high level, and with some of the best gear in the game. While it is possible to complete The Inferno at lower levels and with low-level gear, it is not for the faint-hearted!

Zuk - Twisted Bow - 1st Cape Guide

Twisted bow is the single most impactful investment for the Inferno — it shreds Jads, the magers and Zuk. Wear full ranged BiS (Masori, Dizana’s quiver, Zaryte vambraces, Avernic treads) and bring a Kodai + occult mage switch to one-shot nibblers and damage the Jal-MejRah healers. Rigour and Augury are strongly recommended. Without Masori, crystal armour beats Armadyl or d’hide here thanks to its ranged defence and prayer bonus.

Rune Pouch

Your Rune Pouch should contain:

Death Rune
Soul Rune
Water Rune

Equipment / Inventory Notes:

The Elysian Spirit Shield can be swapped for a Crystal Shield (i), the shield MUST be imbued, one shield will last well over 40 attempts. Your Rune Pouch should contain Death, Soul, and Blood runes. Your Kodai Wand will supply the water runes. The Kodai Wand’s autocast should be set to Ice Barrage before every wave. Your Bastion potion will only be used one time on wave 68 (3 x Jad Start), and three times on wave 69 (Begining, Jad, and Healers).

Zuk - Armadyl Crossbow - 1st Cape Guide

No Twisted bow? The Armadyl crossbow with ruby (or diamond) dragon bolts (e) is a strong, far cheaper option — bolt procs help on Zuk and the magers. Pair it with a Twisted buckler and the same ranged BiS. A bow of faerdhinen is the next step up if you own crystal armour. Rigour and Augury recommended; carry a Kodai + occult mage switch for the nibblers.

The Inferno — Frequently Asked Questions

What is the recommended gear for The Inferno in OSRS?

The recommended setup for The Inferno is shown above — a hand-picked loadout for this encounter rather than an auto-ranked gear grid, because the inferno isn't a standard combat-DPS fight (it's a raid, skilling, or multi-phase encounter where the best setup depends on role and mechanics, not a single damage number).

Bring the inventory shown alongside it (food, potions, and any fight-specific items), and check the strategy notes for how to approach each phase.

What stats do I need to fight The Inferno?

Check the "Requirements" line at the top of this guide — it lists the recommended combat stats and quest prerequisites. As a general rule, you can engage the inferno at the listed minimums, but expect slower kills and more food consumption. Higher combat stats (especially Strength, Ranged Strength, or Magic Damage % depending on the style) translate directly to faster, safer kills.

If your stats are below the recommended minimums, consider training at easier slayer tasks first — efficiency goes up dramatically once you can actually use BiS gear effectively.

Do I need full BiS gear to kill The Inferno?

No. Full BiS makes kills faster but is rarely required. Most players clear the inferno with mid-to-high tier gear — the difference between a Bandos chest and Torva, or a Trident and Shadow, is typically 5-15% DPS. That matters at endgame raid speeds; it doesn't matter for slayer or casual PvM.

Use the BiS gear above as your aspirational target, but start with what you have. The boss tells you what works through your kill speed and food usage.

How do I get to The Inferno?

Travel to The Inferno varies by boss. Check the OSRS Wiki for the exact teleport or walking path — most bosses have a fairy ring code, a slayer master teleport, or a quest reward teleport that works. Bring a way back to the bank between trips: skull-tricks, Achievement Diary teleports, or a House teleport are common.

If you're fighting The Inferno on a slayer task, your slayer master's teleport will usually drop you right at the lair entrance.

What are the best drops from The Inferno?

The "Notable Drops" section above lists the top items from The Inferno — the ones most players are actually grinding for. Most boss tables include a unique (the most valuable rare drop), a handful of mid-tier uniques, and a steady stream of GP-value drops like alchables, runes, and crafting materials.

Drop rates and exact loot tables come from the OSRS game data; specific roll mechanics (1/X, scales with kill count, etc.) vary boss-to-boss — check the OSRS Wiki for full drop tables and rate-of-return calculations.

How do I afford The Inferno gear?

Most BiS items for the inferno come from raids (Tombs of Amascut, Theatre of Blood, Chambers of Xeric) or specific bosses you'd need to grind separately. The Grand Exchange shortcuts the grind for tradeable items: BiS gear costs anywhere from a few million to a few billion GP per piece.

For non-Ironman accounts almost everything is tradeable, so the fastest route is usually to farm GP at a profitable boss, then buy the tradeable upgrades off the GE rather than grinding each drop directly.

How much DPS will my setup do against The Inferno?

Use our OSRS DPS Calculator to find out. Load your stats from the hiscores, equip your gear, pick The Inferno as the target, and the calculator shows your max hit, hit chance, and DPS across melee, ranged, and magic so you can see which style wins for this fight.
