Dinh's bulwark

“Is it... looking at me?”

Dinh's bulwark is a two-handed shield from the Chambers of Xeric, and it has the highest defence of any shield when passive effects are not counted. It needs 75 Attack and 75 Defence. Players use it in two ways: in Block style to take 20% less damage from monsters, or in Pummel style to attack and to group monsters with its Shield Bash special.

Equipment bonuses

How to get Dinh's bulwark

The bulwark is a raid unique, but it is tradeable.

Ways to obtain it
Grand Exchange — it is tradeable, with a buy limit of 8 every 4 hours.
Chambers of Xeric — it is one of the rare rewards from the raid's ancient chest.

A Trailblazer reloaded bulwark ornament kit turns it into Dinh's blazing bulwark. This is a cosmetic change, and you can remove the kit at any time.

How the bulwark works

Block style. You cannot attack, but damage you take is cut by 20%, except in PvP. The reduction starts 8 ticks (4.8 seconds) after you switch to it, so you cannot swap it in only for the moment you get hit.

Pummel style. You can attack and use the special. Pummel also gives extra strength when your stab, slash, crush and ranged defences are very high. With that much defence, Guardian boots or Barrows gloves can add more extra strength than Ferocious gloves or Primordial boots.

Shield Bash costs 50% special energy. In multicombat areas it hits up to 10 enemies within 5 tiles of you, with 20% better accuracy, and lowers each target's highest offensive stat by 5% on a hit. Slayer players use it to pull whole groups, such as dust devils in the Catacombs of Kourend. Pair it with a Serpentine helm for a chance to venom every target.

Outside combat, many players wear it with magic-defence armour such as black dragonhide while skilling in the Wilderness, to survive attacks from players and monsters.

Dinh's bulwark FAQ

What level do you need for Dinh's bulwark?
75 Attack and 75 Defence.
Where does Dinh's bulwark come from?
It is a rare reward from the Chambers of Xeric. It is tradeable, so you can also buy it on the Grand Exchange.
Does Dinh's bulwark work in PvP?
Its 20% damage reduction in Block style does not apply in PvP. The Shield Bash special does hit players as well as monsters.
Can you cast spells with Dinh's bulwark?
No. You cannot cast combat spells while wielding it. In Block style, your dwarf multicannon also stops firing.
What does the Dinh's bulwark special attack do?
Shield Bash uses 50% special energy. In multicombat areas it hits up to 10 enemies within 5 tiles, and your main target is hit twice. Each successful hit lowers the target's highest offensive stat by 5%.
Why does the damage reduction not work straight away?
After you switch to the bulwark, there is an 8-tick (4.8 second) delay before the 20% reduction starts. This stops players from swapping it in only for the hit.
Is Dinh's bulwark good for Slayer?
Yes, in multicombat areas. Its special lets you pull and hit groups of monsters at once, such as dust devils and greater nechryael in the Catacombs of Kourend.
