Ferocious gloves

“A pair of very very nice gloves.”

Ferocious gloves are the best offensive melee gloves in the game, a step up from Barrows gloves with +16 melee attack and +14 strength. You make them from Hydra leather, a drop from the Alchemical Hydra, at a machine inside the Lithkren Vault. They need 80 Attack and 80 Defence, and they give up all defence and ranged or magic accuracy for that melee boost.

Equipment bonuses

Every number on these gloves is about melee damage: +16 stab, slash and crush attack and +14 strength. There is no defence at all, and the −16 magic and ranged attack make them a poor choice when you switch styles.

How to make Ferocious gloves

The gloves are untradeable, but the leather they are made from can be traded.

Ways to obtain it
Get Hydra leather — it drops from the Alchemical Hydra. It is tradeable, so you can also buy it on the Grand Exchange.
Finish Dragon Slayer II — the quest unlocks the Lithkren Vault, where the machine is.
Use the machinery — Take the leather and a hammer into the Lithkren Vault. The machine you need is in the northern area, just south-west of the large pool. Use the leather on it.

The same machine turns the gloves back into Hydra leather if you use it again with the gloves and a hammer.

Ferocious gloves vs Barrows gloves

For pure melee, the Ferocious gloves win: +16 attack and +14 strength against the Barrows gloves' +12 and +12.

Barrows gloves are still the better all-round pair. They give +12 ranged attack, +6 magic attack and real defence, while the Ferocious gloves give −16 to magic and ranged and no defence. At bosses where you change combat style, such as the Dagannoth Kings, Barrows gloves are usually the better pair.

There is one more exception. With Dinh's bulwark in Pummel style, extra defence turns into extra strength. In that case Barrows gloves can add more extra strength than Ferocious gloves. For normal setups, see melee gear.
