Leather gloves are the most basic pair of gloves in the game: a free-to-play hands-slot item with a tiny defence bonus. You craft them from leather and thread at 1 Crafting. They matter as a first, nearly free glove on a new account, and nothing else.

These are cheap and common, so you almost never need to hunt for them.
Ways to obtain it
Craft it — use a needle and thread on a piece of leather. It needs 1 Crafting and gives 13.8 experience. Members can also use a costume needle, which needs no thread.
Floor spawns — there are several, including south of the Edgeville bank and in Father Urhney's house in Lumbridge Swamp.
NPC shops — Thessalia's Fine Clothes and the Fancy Clothes Store in Varrock sell them.
Grand Exchange — the buy limit is 125 every 4 hours.
Who uses Leather gloves
These are for brand-new and free-to-play accounts that have nothing better yet. They add a little slash and crush defence, and that is the whole benefit. Because they are cheap to craft, they are also an easy 1 Crafting task for a new player.
What to wear after Leather gloves
Leather gloves are a placeholder. As soon as you can afford or unlock something better, move on. Members who finish Recipe for Disaster can buy Barrows gloves, which carry +12 strength and +12 across most attack and defence categories.
