Grand Exchange price history
Oathplate shards are a stackable drop from the boss Yama. They are smithed into infernal nuggets, which become infernal plates, and then pieces of oathplate armour. They are the alternative to waiting for a piece to drop: you keep collecting shards until you have enough to smith a piece, instead of waiting for the piece itself to drop. They cannot be worn.
How to get Oathplate shards
Shards come from Yama, or from breaking down armour you already own.
An average Yama kill drops about 0.8075 shards, counting lockboxes. At that rate you should expect enough for one armour piece after about 557 solo kills.
What Oathplate shards make
The route to an armour piece is long and uses a lot of shards:
- Smith 5 shards with 28 crushed infernal shale at 83 Smithing to make an infernal nugget. The furnace is in the mining area on the lower level of the Chasm of Fire.
- Ten nuggets make one infernal plate.
- Nine infernal plates make one piece of oathplate armour. That is 450 shards and 2,520 crushed infernal shale per piece.
The armour needs 78 Defence to wear, and smithing it also needs 78 Mining for the shale. Each piece gives about 22,000 Smithing experience. The pieces are Oathplate helm, Oathplate chest and Oathplate legs.
Are Oathplate shards worth it?
Shards make sense if you already kill Yama and want a piece without waiting on the drop itself (each oathplate piece is 1/600 on a solo kill), or if you want to turn shale-mining and Smithing time into armour. Total up 450 shards and 2,520 shale at the live prices and compare that with the live price of the piece you want. The price tracker is the quickest way to check.
If you only want a single piece and can fight Yama alone, the Contract of Oathplate Acquisition guarantees a piece of your choice on a win. It must be done alone.
